Can a nape piercing be done if the skin is very tight?

I was planning on getting a nape piercing fairly soon but just noticed something tonight. I look at all these videos of the procedures and everyones neck seems to be quite loose. My problem is I can barely pinch the skin with my head up. Once I move my head down there is like no room for a piece of metal under my skin. This definitely puts a damper on my plans. Any advice?

The best idea for you to do is to seek out a qualified piercer who is capable of doing surface piercings with both methods (Freehand with Needle as well as Dermal Punch And Taper), provided you live in a location that does not have a ban on piercers using medical devices such as dermal punches.

So as I said make sure you find a very qualified artist who can analyze the tissue. An ethical piercer will listen to your claims and take you to the procedure room to do a consultation and investigate the matter. If they instantly jump on the idea of doing the work on you without even looking at your nape and analyzing it, go elsewhere. If you mind replying in the comments section with your location, perhaps I or one of the other QOD Staff, etc could direct you where to go. Or perhaps you already have a piercer who you go to, that is knowledgeable enough. If that’s the case make some available time to visit and have them look at your nape.

It might also suck but you must be prepared to deal with the potential situation, that you just might not be suited for a nape piercing, although that’s rare. If you aren’t suitable for a nape piercing, then as we often let clients know, there’s MANY other places to be pierced. :)

  1. And don’t forget, there’s always microdermals! They might be a better option for you if you’re not suited for a nape piercing. Microdermals are not for everyone, though- and they also can’t be performed by just anyone (well they shouldn’t, at least).

If you find out that a nape piercing isn’t going to work out for you, I’d definitely do some research on microdermals and go from there. There’s always other options. :)

  2. one thing to consider with microdermals is this…Just like surface piercings with surface bars…Lifestyle plays a HUGE role in the success of the piercing.

First and foremost your anatomy plays a role. Then your lifestyle needs to be considered. Always wearing necklaces? Well you might need to change that. Always wearing high collared shirts? Might need to change that.

But yes indeed microdermals are another option to consider…But same problems can occur with them like it would with a surface piercing

  3. I live in Hermitage, PA. I was told by a few shops to go down to Hot Rod in Pittsburgh but I don’t drive and I doubt my hubby would be willing to drive 3 hours just to get me pierced. I’ll be leaving to see what they say in a few hours. Hopefully all is well.

  4. There’s definitely a few places in Pittsburgh you can visit. Hot Rod for sure. Tattoo You II as well, just off the top of my head searching the verified professionals list on iam.bmezine.com

It might be a little bit closer to you then Pittsburgh so I’d also say: http://www.innervisionbodyart.com/ and the piercer’s name is: Amy Crisman. It’s located in Sarver, PA which is just a few miles closer to you, so might save you an hour or so depending.

And not being able to drive can be frustrating, I haven’t driven a motor vehicle for close to 6-7 years. These feet were made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do.

As per happy perhaps try the pouty face and batty of the eyelashes…Maybe figure out something that would benefit him as well for driving all that way. Hey it COULD work right? But you don’t know unless you try ;)

  5. Lisa at Artistic Dermagraphics said theres no way even with the punch and taper method it would stay. It just wasn’t meant to be. Though I did get my snug re-done. =D

  6. YAY SNUGS! I did a snug the other day, definitely a great piercing! I can’t wait for the client to come back so I can snap a picture of it :)

    Happy healing the snug! :D
