Bruised eyebrow piercing?

Ok I am no stranger to piercings, I had 18 already before recently deciding to get my other eyebrow pierced. That was about a week ago. The piercing was done pretty deeply, and after a week its ever so slightly sore, but there seems to be some bruising under it around my eyelid that makes it look a little like I have a black eye. I never had such a problem with my other eyebrow when it was done. I was just curious if anyone else had such a problem, and what they did about healing it up? As I said, its not so sore, and I can push it up and down with ease basically, but I just dont get the bruising underneath, unless its due to the deepness of the piercing. I could use some help on this one, here is fine, or feel free to email your response to diabolicalreflections@gmail.com

Bruising around eyebrow piercings is so common that it’s reasonable to expect it standardly (and then be pleasantly surprised if it doesn’t happen to you). The face is absolutely loaded with fine capillaries - ever see a rugby player or a boxer split their eyebrow? It generally bleeds like crazy! - and if and when your piercer dings one with a needle, you can expect some subcutaneous bleeding and therefore bruising. The placement of your piercing is probably fine; eyebrows should be kind of ‘deep’ to give them something to hang on to and to reduce the risk of migration. Moving your jewellery up and down in quite unnecessary, by the way, and you’re just traumatising the tissue further and increasing your chances of migration and rejection, not to mention exacerbating the bruising. Hands off!
There are ways piercers have to reduce trauma to the piercing site - for instance, I’ve noticed bruising in my clients has been dramatically reduced since going exclusively freehand with eyebrows, and if your piercer is especially enthusiastic about clamping you can pretty much guarantee a perfect forcep-shaped bruise on your face - but different piercers have different means of getting an end result and at the end of the day, if you have a perfect piercing and a bit of a shiner, you don’t have too much cause for complaint - it’s not going to kill you and it’ll sort itself out in a few days. If you’re looking for ways to get rid of bruises faster, I’ve had excellent results using Hirudoid ointment to speed up the healing of bruises after facial surgeries, and arnica oil works pretty well, too; obviously, don’t get any sort of oil or ointment into your actual piercing.
If your bruise doesn’t sort itself out within a week or two at the most (or, and this is pretty rare, results in continuous ongoing bruising), go back to your piercer and have a whinge, they should offer to re-do it, it’s a placement issue. And don’t get cranky at them about it, either, it’s pretty hard to predict every little capillary unless you have x-ray vision, and you’ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. ![]()

Well thank you for the reply. I thought it could be something like a capillary but I wasnt really sure because the piercing didnt bleed even a drop when it was performed, and there was no bruising where the clamp was, just on the eyelid so it mad me a little concerned. Its been a week today, it still isnt really sore or anything so I will give it a little time to see what happens. As for moving it up and down, I was actually referring to when I clean it in the shower and use the antibacterial soap. But thanks again.

james_shadow on November 2nd, 2007 at 12:42 amIf the piercing didn’t bleed at all, then I’m even less surprised about bruising - generally, SOME bleeding is going to happen with any piercing, and it’s one of those better-out-then-in things, it’s just bled beneath the surface. Hence, the bruising. I’m certain it’ll be fine soon!
Lori St.Leone on November 2nd, 2007 at 12:58 amI drank alcohol the night before I got my piercing and I bled like crazy for like 20 minutes. So I would suggest not doing that. lol Also I bruised pretty bad, but it went away in a few days!
Jessi on February 10th, 2008 at 8:30 pmI’m having a similar sort of problem, although what concerns me is not so much the bruising but the fact that the bruising started out in the crease of my eyelid just under the bottom ball of my barbell, and has appeared to ’slide’ to the outer corner of my eye. I got mine done three days ago, no pain, it looks clean e.g. no crusties or oozing. So I’m not unduly worried.
Dee on April 27th, 2008 at 8:53 amThe piercing area had bruising but that has turned into the yellowish almost healed colour, and this ’slid’ bruise is quite a deep purple.
Dee, I’ve had plenty of bruises(not from piercings, strangely) and all of mine have done what your eye is doing.so, i personally wouldn’t worry at all.
Sade on April 27th, 2008 at 1:45 pmThanks Sade, I guess I really should go with the ‘it’s not sore so it’s fine just leave it the hell alone’ theory lol. I suppose it’s just cos it’s not something I’ve come across before, so it’s a bit reassuring to hear that someone else has experienced it (albeit not through a piercing lol).
Dee on April 27th, 2008 at 3:52 pmAs I said in my initial response, bruising with eyebrow piercings is so common that it’s pretty much to be expected - and as with any sort of bruise anywhere on the body, the bruising can certainly change colour or appear to “shift” as it heals!
Lori St.Leone on April 27th, 2008 at 4:32 pmHi, I also have the same bruising as Dee it was fine when it went in no bleeding or pus afterwards i did move mine under instruction from the peircer but i have read on hear dont do it, It did look perfect for the first 3 days then the bruising started the skin around the peircing is yellow with a green tinge to it and the same bleeding in eyelid as dee.
ThreeDzone on June 2nd, 2008 at 10:28 amhi everyone,
i had my left eyebrow pierced 3-4 days ago and i have just noticed some bruising under the bottom part of the silver bar [pretty much top of eyelid]. i do use natural sea salt mixed with water twice daily and also i use ear and body piercing aseptic spray once or twice daily depending as well….my issue is..

ian on January 3rd, 2009 at 4:53 amHey everyone,
I got my piercing done nearly a week and a half ago and the actual piercing is fine, but my eyelid and outer corner of my eye are STILL a really deep dark purple. It feels sore but when I move the barbell up and down… I feel no pain at all and can do this with ease. I’m just curious as to of when the bruise will go away… it’s already nearly 2 weeks since I had gotten it done and kind of looks like it’s getting worse not better…
Britt on March 29th, 2009 at 5:31 pmhad mine done 4 days ago now , started bruising yesterday only on eye lid and just above , not on eyebrow at all , is completely painless and looks ace apart from the black eye effect lol , how long does the bruising normally take to dissapear ?
matt on May 25th, 2009 at 12:51 pmHello. I just had mine done last night. The piercing dabbed it with paper after he did it so I’m assuming it bled at least a little. I woke up this morning with a dull greenish bruise around the piercing. It doesn’t hurt at all. I’m assuming this is normal even with the greenish color?
Devin on August 13th, 2009 at 2:27 pmGot my eyebrow pierced twice 3 days ago. Bruising that occured is same as most have described. Deep purple bruise above eyelid as well as on outer corner of my eye. Even my piercer says its common. I’m not worried and you all shouldn’t be either. It’ll go away quick enough lol.
Chris on October 7th, 2009 at 9:00 amHEY WELL I GOT A PIERCING ON OUTER SIDE OF MY EYE 3 DAYS AGO.. THE PIERCING IS FINE BUT IT STARTED TO BRUISE UNDER MY EYE ABOUT 1 CENTIMETER NEXT 2 MY PIERCING.
