infected lip

I pierced my lip a little over a week ago. The swelling has gone down, and now it feels like my other lip piercing (that’s now 2 years old) did, except I’m pretty sure it’s infected. The outside hole has a big sore around it that scabs up and makes moving the ring hell (even after I soak it to try to losen it up beforehand) and there has been copious amounts of pus. I’ve been doing sea salt soaks and trying to leave it alone, but I suppose my question is, is it better to “squeeze” the pus out (I tend to put pressure on the ring by stretching my lip out to make it come out) or leave it alone to clear up on it’s own?
Plain and simple, change the ring out to a implant grade steel or titanium internally threaded labret stud. Honestly I often ask myself why the hell are piercers still using rings/CBR’s for lips, when anyone with an iota of logic and intelligence will know that a labret stud offers a more effective and efficient healing process. Anyways sorry for that lil rant, teehee.
The fact is that the pus is still occurring because of the constant rotation of the ring. This rotation of the ring in and out of the piercing often irritates it and prolongs the healing time. With rings you should never be turning/spinning the jewelry around and the more you “squeeze” and touch and play with the piercing, the more you’re just going to irritate it.
So as I said above get a high quality labret stud inserted into the piercing and leave that thing along, at least for a good 8 weeks or so. If you decide you want a ring, then you can do so, once the problems are troubleshooted and gone. But still you want to wait a lil bit before changing the labret stud out to a ring, be patient and don’t rush…Else this problem will just keep occurring.

Kelly on December 20th, 2007 at 3:56 amit was pierced with a curved barbell, but about a month later i had it changed to a CBR
and i’m thinking i should change back
i’m so glad someone asked this question
I can’t wear labret studs, they are constantly either embeding into the back of my lip, or when i wear a longer one, geting caught on my teeth when i eat/talk. any other solutions?
Jenna on December 27th, 2007 at 4:50 amJenna: I’d say you are a very rare case then since the majority of individuals who wear labret studs have no problem wearing them, so long as they are properly fitted.
in some cases studios only carry specific lengths and don’t carry in between sizes ie: 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″…the 7/16″ being the in between size.
Also depending on the flat disc portion of the labret could be the culprit…As often various companies will make their discs at different sizes…
Depending on the placement of the lip piercing if the flat disc is too small it definitely can embed, etc.
The only other solution is to actively stop trying to play(suck, bite, rotate, etc) with your piercing and do the aftercare protocol.
Also remember that your piercing is now what, like a week to two weeks old? Maybe 3 weeks perhaps? This piercing is still VERY MUCH a fresh initial piercing and this irritation/inflammation,etc will still occur well into the 6-8 week period.
No piercing heals in a week or two…It takes a few months for it to be healed enough just for you to stop doing the aftercare guidelines.

Liz on January 22nd, 2008 at 5:40 amI’ve had either side of my lip pierced several times because of irritation from CBR’s. They look pretty but they are a major pain. I’ve found that Labret studs and horseshoes work the best! That extra little bead on the horseshoe stops the spinning so much i found. I tend to wear CBR’s on “special” occasions and that’s about it.
This is just what i’ve found and my boyfriend has the side problem with his.
this yellow stuff is coming out of my piercing, but i got it a week ago and someone said it was fine, and it doesnt hurt or anything. but i am very paranoid that its infected. should i be scared?

swellings gone down but wondering if theres anything i can do to stop this becoming permanent?
i got my lip pierced about two weeks ago and there’s levatating skin on the inside of my lip right around the back of the piercing hole. I don’t know if it’s infected or wwhat..I went to the tattoo parlor and the dude had five facial piercing so I took his word for it, he said it’s fine it’s not infected but I think otherwise.
