Nipple piercings and sports

Hey. I’m planning on getting both (female) nipples pierced in a few weeks. My issue is that I’m pretty active: I play volleyball twice a week, soccer once a week, tennis 1-2x a week, and have a 2 hour martial arts class once a week–all on different days. After being pierced, I’ll have a week’s break from sports due to reading week but will that be long enough, considering the long healing time? Should I stay away from sports for some period of time after that? I’m especially worried about volleyball (arm movement) and soccer (potentially “chesting” the ball). I’ve searched for information about this but really haven’t had much luck.

Thanks…

Unfortunately, there is no “right” answer for a question like this, because everyone will have a different experience. In general, I think you’ll find that sports doesn’t irritate the piercings too much. Basic movement, even arm movement, shouldn’t impact things too much. You may want to consider covering the piercings with some padding, such as a thicker pantie-liner cut in half. That will help keep things clean and should provide help reduce irritation from movement.

I would STRONGLY suggest trying to avoid taking any soccer or volley balls to the chest. Unless you’re wearing some serious armor, that kind of trauma could very likely cause healing problems….not to mention hurt like the dickens on a new nipple piercings.

  1. A quick note on the panty-liner idea: This is brilliant. I did it myself personally on and off over the first few weeks of having my nips done. Mine seemed to flare up unless I wore one particular pair of bras, which made it impossible to wash them reguarly and keep hygiene levels up. Cut a liner in half and you get padding -and- cleanliness! Just watch for ones that could get the fibres stuck to the bars. ;-)

  2. I’d also add with Derek’s answer that you should be wearing some sort of proper sports bra to help keep your breasts secure.

also what type of martial arts training do you take? What manner of training do you do? I take capoeira and usually the first have of the class is working on our cardio (running, push ups, sit ups, etc)…Which can definitely put a lot of stress on the body. Also when we’re sparring (capoeira its called the Roda) its very common for interaction with the chest…Much like in karate, tae-kwan-do and many other martial arts styles, that involve take downs/throws,etc.

Personally nowadays I’m considering looking at a persons physical activities a lot more, in regards to the stress it applies on the body during the healing process of a piercing. Physical activities like soccer, vollyball, martial arts, etc works the body harder then it normally handles…hence the time exercise…By doing these exercise routines you do put stress on the body and the more active you are, the more stress is applied…Much like how piercers don’t advise navel piercing clients to go home an do their 1000 (generalized number) sit-ups a day routine.

Usually the good thing about a athletic type person is that they tend to have their bodies much closer to the peak performance level then the average person…This means if they do a scaled down exercise routine and keep up their daily water intake and dietary intakes, the piercing should heal relatively efficiently.

Ultimately I’d say listen to your body…If it hurts, it needs rest.
