This is just an inquiry of opinion. I’ve been trying to find out different peoples’ opinions on the APP. Yay? Nay? Elaborate!
If you are looking for a general opinion on the APP, that’s not a very specific request. I will say this though:
In my opinion, the APP is definitely a very helpful organization for up-to-date knowledge and resources in regards to the piercing industry. Their seminars are a great opportunity for piercers who are new to the industry to network with other piercers and pick up new and refined knowledge. The APP is generally regarded as an association that upholds the highest standards in health, safety & piercing and also stays in touch with international standards in the industry. This also makes the APP a great place for more experienced piercers to get together and update their existing knowledge.
They offer different levels of membership and they will recognize studios that meet their criteria on their website. All in all, I feel that they have a positive influence in the piercing industry.

bab on March 14th, 2008 at 10:33 pmThe reason I am asking this question is because the majority of shops I’ve come across are NOT APP certified. In fact, there is only one shop in my state that is. I’m wondering what the beef is with getting certified, I certainly would hope it’s not a money thing!
What are your thoughts? (anyone can chime in) Is going to a shop not affiliated with the APP a bad idea? Regardless of reputation, cleanliness, professionalism, etc? I have several mods, and still have yet gone to a shop that is. But I’ve always had that thought in the back of my mind…
Just because they’re not certified with the APP doesn’t mean they’re a bad shop. The place I always go to isn’t certified, but they’re the cleanest place in the area. They could easily get a membership, but I don’t think they need one. Having a membership doesn’t make any shop better than the next
Katie on March 15th, 2008 at 11:22 amIn Hungary we don’t have any association for piercers (only one for tattoo artists) and it makes it harder for you to find a good studio so most of the time the the reputation is the most important and still it is usually a try-and-see kind of thing. So I think that a studio that is not in any association can still be better than one that is however the other way around is probably more likely?
Babysitter on March 15th, 2008 at 3:33 pmWhy do you think so many studios aren’t certified?
