I’ve been researching on wrist surface piercings, and looking for the kind of jewelry I want to use. I’ve opted to get the discs when I actually get the piercing, but I can’t seem to find flat discs that are dark gray/black. Do they exist, and if so where can I find them?
Flat disks are typically going to be an excellent choice for the top of your surface bar.
As for finding them that are gray/black, that could be a bit more challenging. In order for them to be gra or black they will have to be made out of either Niobium are some other coated/plated metal…most commonly titanium.
You are almost guaranteed not to find disks in Niobium. While it is a good metal for captive bead rings, it can be a more difficult metal to machine when it come to dealing with threads…so none of the manufacturing companies I’ve seen deal with it in that capacity. While you can get barbell posts that are niobium, the threaded ends made of niobium just don’t happen.
As for the a coated titanium, it is more likely you will find this. It is typically referred to as Blackline jewelry, or something similar. Most of the companies making or distributing this type of jewelry tend to be European companies. So…the options you have may be more. None of the companies that I am willing to purchase surface bars from to put into my clients make coated titanium jewelry, so unfortunately, I can’t give the name of a specific company to contact.
Best of luck in your search.

BAF do some in other colours if your interested http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=2387 or with black gems which take up most of the disc http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=4319
I’ve been searching for blackline discs for months, still no luck
Gem on May 11th, 2008 at 2:23 amWildcat do internally threaded Blackline discs. You might not be able to get pierced with them, but you could always get regular polish (or other colours) to begin with and change the discs when it’s healed.

They have differet colors and sizes of their flat titanium discs.

The BAF links are Industrial Strength (which most decent piercers carry), and any piercer who carries Anatometal could get you a good range of options, as well. PVD coated jewellery can flake or chip off (yuck) and I’m no fan of supporting websites that carry knockoff Asian-made garbage body jewellery, and people, you are quite deliberately making choices that will destroy the good guys when you support those websites.
Lori St.Leone on May 12th, 2008 at 10:44 amTitanium can also be anodized, if you are interested in that. It can be electrically shocked basically to any color you choose. Also, have you considered a microdermal for your wrists? They look awesome.
Angel.dust on May 15th, 2008 at 12:03 amActually, that isn’t quite true.
Titanium can definitely be anodized, but the range of colors that it can be anodized to is limited.
For example, there is no way to anodize titanium black. As I mentioned in my answer, niobium can be made black, but even that doesn’t happen through anodizing.
In addition, you can’t anodize titanium (or niobium) to a deep/emerald green. You also can’t anodize either of those materials into a true red.
