Nipples- sports bras- yes/no?

So I just got my nipples pierced yesterday at a shop I would trust with my life. They’re the most professional/knowledgeable people I’ve ever met, regarding body modifications.

I haven’t had any problems or anything (it’s only been 24 hours), but the piercer told me that she suggests wearing sports bras during healing (they’ll be less sore and whatnot) but I read on askbme (and also on the aftercare protocol sheet they gave me) to not wear tight clothing against fresh piercings.

I don’t know who to believe! lol. wanna help me out? I just want to make sure my piercings will be okay.

I definitely wouldn’t encourage a client to wear a serious compression-type no-bounce sports bra, but those comfy crop-top sports-type bras (you know, the ones that are made from spandex or lycra but aren’t all THAT seriously supportive) are pretty much perfect for healing nipple piercings. I always found it far more comfortable to have gentle but firm support when I was healing my nipple piercings, and I basically lived in either the aforementioned sports bras or tank tops/singlets with soft built-in bras during my entire healing period. I advise my female clients to do the same and I’ve never seen anyone have any issues with it! Now, corsets and push-up bras, on the other hand.. not so good!

  1. i swore by these little light support GAP bras at night and now old navy strechy tank tops. couldn’t avoid needing to use regular mondo victorias secret bras during the day (DD + fresh piercings = not exactly smart, but worked out,) but a little bit of support now will definitly be appreciated down the road.

Yeah, the more fully-endowed among us don’t really have a choice in the matter when it comes to wearing a bra or not! I can see how pressure from bras can definitely affect healing with a ring, but ideally, nipples should be pierced with barbells anyway, and a well-fitted barbell isn’t going to get too much damage from a decently-fitted bra. The piercing/s will certainly cop less damage than they would from rubbing against clothing or just flopping around everywhere!

I’m pretty sure it was Todd Bertrang who used to insist that it was impossible to heal nipple piercings unless women wore those fetishy nipple-less bras (or nursing bras), but that’s a load of shite, IMHO. ;)

  4. Hi to all,
I just got both nipples pierced 4 days ago, and i find that wearing a soft cup cotton bra, or a singlet top with a built in bra has helped me heaps.
I choose the barbells, until the piercings heal , then i want to change to CBR.
At night i tryed just a t-shirt, but no go.
I felt more comfy with this kind of bra, the added support helps alot!
Cant wait to get back into my more elegant sexy bras though!

    happy healing!

  5. When you do go back to those elegant, sexy bras, watch out for shelf style ones where the edge catches the piercing when you bend and such. I just lost a nipple piercing to migration, and I think the main reason was catching on the edge of my favorite low style bras.

  6. Hi Star,
How long did you have your nipple pierced before it migrated?
and how long before you went back to your favorite bra?
Also what are the signs of early migration if any?
Sounds like i will have to be very careful, as i too love low style push up bras, they are quite padded on the inside with a nice soft cotton fabric, so fingers crossed! as i love my piercings and hope i dont have too much trouble in these early days of healing.
Cheers from the land Down under.
