Apadravya Piercing Question

Monday May 19th, 2008 @ 10:08 PM

Right now I currently have a Prince Albert (PA) and I’m interested in getting an Apadravya, would I have to retire my PA or is there a way to keep both(have both piercings in)?

If your Prince Albert piercing is placed in the right location, you should be able to pierce the upper part of your glans (reverse PA) directly above your existing PA fistula, then put a straight barbell through both holes.

Voila! You now have an apadravya piercing!

White Ink Tattoos

Monday May 19th, 2008 @ 8:40 PM

I got two white star tattoos on my inner wrists on Feb. 1st of this year… they were very painful and hurt to touch for 3 weeks. Once they healed, they had a yellow tint and looked kind of like cottage cheese. I went to my new artist and he said that white ink should never be used in larger areas and he won’t do white ink other than to highlight. We tried to go over the white stars w/red ink but it only held the red color along the outline. He said that the middles are scar tissue (from the first guy going too deep) and aren’t going to hold color.

I would like to get a word done in white ink but I’m unsure about it… I know that Shannon had some white ink facial work done and I’ve seen other white ink tattoos on this site. Can anyone please help shed some light on this for me? I would really like to pursue this…

Thank you!

Mary

White tattoo pigment is generally titanium oxide, and the carrier tends to be thinner than other pigments. With time and exposure to the sun, most white pigment will take on a yellowish tint. Not always, but… a fair amount of the time. The reason a lot of artists tend to not use it for larger areas is that it’s a little harder to get in the skin consistently- overworking is a major concern when trying to get a solid white area solid. That’s what causes the scarring.

That’s not to say it’s not possible, but it’s something that’s certainly better done by artists who’ve worked with white extensively.

bleeding a week into piercing

Monday May 19th, 2008 @ 8:38 PM

i had my piercing done almost a week ago. a lip ring actuslly the 2nd snake bite. anyways i ghave my friend a kiss goodbye and it inda hurt. later i see blood on my lip around the piercing. i clean it and later theres more so i got o clean it and it keeps bleeding for a couple minutes. then later on out of nowhere i taste blood in my mouth and its bleeding again for the third time. so i go clean it but its not as much blood as last time. anyways my friend sad it could be cuz i was drinking for the past 3 days, ending last night, so maybe my blood cant clot too well. also last night i was ina moshpit, so maybe it got hit. Is this bad? should i take it out? what do i do!!!?

A lip piercing, less than a week old, and you’re kissing, drinking and moshing? Yeah. That could contribute to the bleeding. It’s also possible that your ring has a knick/barb on it and is irritating the piercing. There are a lot of potential factors, but- my primary advice would be “lay off the lip, the hooch and the moshing”. Piercings heal with patience and care, not abuse.

Something wrong with my tongue?

Sunday May 18th, 2008 @ 11:34 PM

I got my tongue pierced around 43 hours ago, and im worried that their might be something wrong with it. It’s quite unsightly: the tip of my tongue is turning a dark bruised color and there is a small red bump infront of the bead on the topside and the back of my tongue is turning a whitish color. Its not very swollen however. I’ve been cleaning it with diluted tech 2000 about every 6 hours or so, and after i eat. Is it normal for my tongue to turn these ugly colors? Is there something i should do? What caused this?

In situations like this, it always makes me wonder why a person would sit and ask this question online, instead of visiting a piercing studio or quite possibly an ER.

43 Hours ago and the tip of your tongue is darkly bruised and small red bumps are showing infront of the bead on the top and back of tongue turning white? It could be a cluster of issues there, I can say for certain the bruising is a result of the pathway going through some blood vessels be they minor or major blood vessels.

Also with mouth wash its better to use it morning and night, no more, and through-out the day use salt water/sterile saline, etc. As when using a properly mixed isotonic sterile saline solution you’re flushing out the wound but also promoting skin cell regeneration.

However based on the number of symptoms you’re stating, I would say go straight to the ER/Doctor, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Better than a medical professional assess the situation and provide a proper means of treatment and dish out medical advice, then those of us who are not medical practitioners.

I know this is a very vague/cloudy answer to your question and doesn’t really help that much…But without seeing how the piercing was done and physically in person, it’s hard to say…The only thing I can say is the bruising is a result of the needle passing through blood vessels to cause the bruising

anatomically speaking…

Sunday May 18th, 2008 @ 11:24 PM

i’m interested in getting a triangle piercing, but in all the research i’ve been doing it always says that you must be anatomically suited for the piercing.

what should my vagina look like for it to be anatomically suited for this piercing? i know a piercer could tell me, but i would like an idea going into it.

thanks!

That’s the good thing about contacting AskBME.com, since a lot of us ARE piercers, so when you contact AskBME chances are very high that a piercer or someone with the right information will see it ;)

Anatomically speaking when it comes to the Vulva, not Vagina, what you are looking for is the Clitoral Hood area of the anatomy. It along with the shape/definition of the clitoris, as well as your outer & inner labia and other potential factors.

If you haven’t checked this out yet I’d say look at the BME Wiki on Triangle Piercings. As you should be able to figure things out that way by that bit of information.

If you have any other specific questions you’d like to ask and delve further into don’t hesitate to ask in the comment section :)

clamp mark

Sunday May 18th, 2008 @ 9:22 AM

i got the lower part of my navel pierced early yesterday, and since then there has been this huge, red, hideous clamp mark around my piercing. i thought it would go away within a few hours but its still bright red, is this normal? the piercing itself is fine, isnt swollen or infected, but the clamp mark is not fading! how long will it take till its gone?

This is one of the main disadvantages of using clamps, particularly with navels. Sometimes it cannot be helped, especially with ‘tough’ navels. Give it 2-3 days and the graze should be less noticeable if not gone completely.

Scar tissue from gunned ear cartilage piercing

Saturday May 17th, 2008 @ 1:22 PM

Hi.

A year and a half ago, in September 2006, I had my helix gunned at 16g. (Stupid, I know. Spare me the lecture.) It healed up fine, it hasn’t given me any trouble since, and it’s been healed for more than a year now. However, the fistula is extremely thick; it extends about 1mm out of the ear and looks disgusting! I’ve tried sea salt soaks and tea tree oil, but no improvements. How can i get rid of it? (I’m having the same trouble with my DIY lobe piercing as well.)

Thanks a lot.

As requested, I’ll save you the lecture. :)

The extended “fistula” that you are referring to is most likely some hypertrophic scarring on the piercing. This type of scar tissue is common with piercings (and other wounds) where there is a lot of mechanical irritation. Given the less-than-ideal nature of the way the ear piercing gun does the piercing, as well as the often less-than-spectacular jewelry that goes into the piercing…scarring like this is not uncommon with cartilage piercings done with ear piercings. (Simmer down…not lecturing…just explaining).

There are a variety of things you can try to reduce the scar tissue.

You should be able to find a few different types of scar-reduction products at your local pharmacy. These products claim to reduce scarring…and I have seen them work well for some people…not so well for others. Some people take a more “homemade” approach to things and they will massage the area with things like Vitamin E oil or extra virgin olive oil. The act of physically massaging it can help break up the scar tissue, making it easier for your body to re-absorb it. The various oils can, for some people, help break up the scar tissue even more.

Best of luck.

What jewlery is best for nipple piercings?

Saturday May 17th, 2008 @ 1:17 PM

Hey BME!

I want to get both nipples pierced and have a question about Jewlery.

What is the most common type of jewlery used for this piercing?

Or does this depend on the type & size of your nipples?

Thanks

PIPA X

There isn’t necessarily a “most common” type of jewelry for nipple piercings. However, my opinion, and that of most piercers I know, is that barbells are a better choice for initial jewelry than captive bead rings or circular barbells.

Straight barbells (some prefer curved) will sit much more flush with your body, reducing the amount of abuse from daily activity. In addition, because the barbells don’t hang below the nipple, there is less pressure/leverage from shirts and bars (if applicable). Reducing the pressure on a piercing makes it easier for your body to heal and reduces the likelihood of rejection or migration.

I will do nipple piercings with captive bead rings or circular barbell, but only after I’ve thoroughly explained the advantages of straight barbells to my client.

VCH PIERCING

Saturday May 17th, 2008 @ 12:45 PM

Hey there!

I am going to get a VCH peircing this week and would firstly like to know , what are the advantages & disadvantages of having a curved barbell or a CBR?.

what is the most common type of jewlery used?

Also i understand everyone has a different pain thresshold, but on a scale of 1 to 10 how intense would you describe the pain?

Thanks!

PIPA X

I honestly feel they are one of the same, really, and alot depends on the preference of the piercer. The advantages of a barbell is that it is easier to swap and change the jewellery yourself. The disadvantage is that I find they do tend to move about a fair bit. I have worn both BCRs and barbells in mine (when I had it) and had no issues with either. I was originally pierced with a BCR and had no discomfort during the healing time whatsoever and based on my own positive experience, tend to initially fit BCRs unless asked otherwise.

As for the pain factor - it tends to be a short, sharp shock and then no discomfort at all once the jewellery is in situ. Because the pain is short-lived you do tend to get a nice endorphine high post-piercing. Have fun!

Lobe stretching

Friday May 16th, 2008 @ 2:17 AM

I had my lobes stretched from 2ga to 0ga two days ago, professionally. The stretch went well, one hurt a little, the other was painless. They’ve been a little tender but not anything out of the ordinary.

I did a soak today and when I cleaned around the jewelry there was a little blood on both. I’m guessing this means I managed to tear them regardless of the easy stretch. Should I be worried? No signs of a blowout, and I don’t plan to stretch any further…

Can I leave the 0ga in and just treat them real nice?

Thanks!

Definitely sounds like one had a bit more of micro-tearing then the other one, since stretching should not hurt at all if you’re waiting the appropriate amount of time and using the right size jewelry, etc.

And I would agree with you to simply just treat them as if they were freshly pierced (sterile saline soaks once or twice a day, etc) since you do not plan to stretch any further. Treat them real nice and baby them and don’t think about stretching for quite awhile.
