ok i had gauged my ears to 5/8 inch the right ear does fine and the left i dono whats wrong with it but it didnt wanna go so after hours of messing with it i finally got it and this wee lil piece of skin came out of my ear not like a blow out or anything but like just a piece of skin and this white stuff would come out of my lobe like around the plug so i switched from wood to opals and it cleared up and was fine but when i took out my plugs i noticed a purple mark inside the lobe so i thought maybe it was just a bit of bruising or something and went up to 3/4s inch didnt have to use a taper or anything just a bit of vitamin E oil and they went right in and now the lobe is doing the same thing again… is there any way to like get that to go away?
Try stretching properly from the get-go. Prevention is better than cure and let’s face it, knarly, chewed-up stretched lobes do not look attractive. There is a wealth of information on the internet and on BME on how to stretch correctly. Also organics are not meant to be used in fresh stretches due to their porous nature and ability to harbour bacteria, which can become an issue if you damage your lobe during the process. As in your case.
By rushing the process and damaging your lobes all you will gain is a thinned out lobe with a poor blood supply and a build up of scar tissue. It will look unsightly, hinder any future stretching and could even lead to necrosis and subsequent splitting. Not nice, eh?
For immediate treatment, remove the jewellery and wait until your earlobes have calmed down before commencing stretching at a size whereby the jewellery pops in comfortably and massage your vitamin E oil into the lobe to soften it and stimulate the blood supply in the meantime. Whilst you are waiting for your lobes to rectify themselves, do a little research so that you might stretch safely next time.

well the thing is the only part that i did wrong was messing with the one for a few hours i always wait til they heal up and everything before i stretch again except for this case because i wasnt sure what that was and i mean they look fine and everything their not thinning out or anything i do both ears the same just for some reason the left always does something crazy my lobes are pretty thick to begin with so maybe i just need to do it with extra caution or something like when i the thing happened before like at the 5/8s where the skin came out like it didnt bleed or anything it was rather odd like if i cant get what i want in and its healed up i do the vitamin E oil thing and then use a taper again no bleeding or ne thing like that if i feel its not gonna go il just work my way up to the size slowly on the taper i wont force it again til the 5/8s and that was just because i had to go some place later on that day so that was a stupid move on my part im just really confused on why the right ear and left ear are so different like when i went to 3/4s they both went right in the right was like able to pop in and out while i was sleeping it was so loose and the left was a lil tight and still is i had talked to a piercer about it and they had mentioned that maybe it was where i had my 2nd and 3rd holes gauged as well so i removed those n that did seem to help to an extent but anyways il do what u said and thanks for the reply
xxxeatmyshortsxxx on June 16th, 2008 at 2:59 pmI’m sorry to be nitpicky here, but can we have some paragraph and sentence structure happening? I’m finding it -really- difficult to read your response.
Also, the correct term is “stretch” not “gauge”. Gauge is a unit of measurement. You are stretching your lobes, and you have your 2nd and 3rd holes stretched, not “gauged”.
How do you stretch? How long do you wait between stretches?
Dimruthien on June 17th, 2008 at 7:38 amsorry about that i was just typing it all out not really thinking about the whole sentence structures and all that crap didnt know that really mattered… and actually lots of ppl call it gauging or stretching i just so happen to call it both whatever just comes out at the time but whatever. i usually wait about a month or so depending on how they look and feel like if they feel really tight still then i dont usually “stretch” to the next size until its nice and loose but almost always at least a month between “stretching” also depending on how it feels as to how i “stretch” it and abotu how do i stretch i answered that in the response above:) usually just a taper with vitamin e oil
xxxeatmyshortsxxx on June 18th, 2008 at 5:36 pmI’d say you’re going too fast. Maybe wait 2 months between stretches and see how it goes.
Dimruthien on June 18th, 2008 at 10:00 pmAt 5/8ths of an inch you probably shouldn’t be using tapers any more. Try the tape-wrap method instead. Less damaging.
