I recently stretched my left ear lobe from 00g to 1/2″ sometime in March. I blew it out I know, I had a flap of skin on the back of it in one area but didn’t think much of it. I changed my plug from an acrylic plug to a stainless steal one every so often. For a few days, I had my acrylic in and this morning I changed it to my stainless steal. About an hour later I relized the back of my lobe was discharging clear liquid goo all over and the what I think is just a flap of skin, grew all around the area and it looks like its trying to form over my plug. I never experienced this before, I don’t know whats going on. I just took some pictures of it but don’t have them yet but if someone would please e-mail me back, I’ll be more than happy to share them with you and hear your thoughts on whats happening.
Thank you.
What happened to 000g?
I’m guessing if you are skipping sizes you are also stretching too quickly. What is going on is that you have caused trauma to your lobe which may result in excess scarring thus limiting your future stretching potential. As I’ve stated before (do a search, folks, questions like this are all too common), this can result in compromised blood supply and even necrosis if you continue to stretch in this manner.
Ok, damage limitation time. Remove your plugs. Do twice daily seasalt soaks until it has healed. Massage your lobe with either vitamin E oil or Holey Butt’r and once and only once they are happy with you, pop in some plugs that your lobes will accomodate with ease and start again from that size. Do a search on BME and find the information on the correct way to stretch.
I have to say that I really don’t understand the mentality that alot of people have with regards to getting as big as they can or want in least amount of time. Damaged, stretched lobes look unattractive. They really do! Chicks don’t dig scarred lobes.

I waited over year till I stretched my ear lobe. I just recently found out theres a size between 00 and 1/2″, reason why I haven’t done anything to my right lobe. So whats happening to my lobe can not be my fault since I had no idea there was a size in between, and why would it just out of the blue start acting up? Like I said, it was in March when I did that, it’s now July, never had any problems with it till now.
Anyway, thank you fro your help.
kittydemon on July 12th, 2008 at 3:02 pmi know trying to go 13mm was traumatic for my ears, so I can only imagine 00g to 13mm. wouldn’t your ear bleed or something from doing that!?
Sade on July 12th, 2008 at 3:33 pmAnd I quote..

and I quote again..

so if skipping a size isn’t your fault, who’s is it? I know plenty of people with lovely, happy large-gauge stretched lobes (including myself) who have stretched correctly over a lengthy period of time and without skipping sizes. The information is out there.
Problems don’t necessarily manifest themselves immediately. I am pretty confident that the root cause of your current problem is from skipping that size.
Tiff Badhairdo on July 12th, 2008 at 7:49 pmTiff: I reckon there’s two options for te “root problem”
1) Skipping Sizes
2) Stretching too quickly to get to 00ga, not the wait a year part from 00ga to 1/2″ although that could have even been too soon.

Umm,I’m confused because the moment I learned about stretching my ears- at 14- is the moment I learned about the different gauges; granted, I didn’t have anyone to tell me I was going about things the wrong way, but still.
I think the problem I have with your argument of ignorance is the fact that this is your body, and I would think you would want to know as much information as possible for whatever stress you plan on setting upon your body. And, even with you being ignorant of the facts surrounding different gauges, the blame is still on you because it’s your body, and you chose to not get all the information that is easily available.
Sade on July 13th, 2008 at 4:32 pmYeah, it’s common sense, a 00ga to 1/2 inch can be anywhere from 9mm-13mm some 00ga are 9’s some are 10’s, some 1/2 are 12’s some are 12.5’s some are 13’s. so in worst case scenario you’re jumping from 9-13mm a 4mm stretch… yeah why not just stretch your lobes from 18ga to 6ga same thing. overall people need to realize if the jewelry is way too big, i can tell that 1/2 is much larger than 00ga.
Lucas Reichennek on July 14th, 2008 at 6:29 pmDid you even ask if there was “inbetween” size?
I agree with everyone else it was ignorant on your part. Even if it was by mistake.
Although I guess I’m just as guilty.
Netizen on August 2nd, 2008 at 5:50 pmI repierced my ears 3 months ago. I started stretching 2 months ago, in a day I went from 14g-4g waited two weeks let my ears heal and then went 4g-0g then waited a month and half and went 0g-00g-7/16g-1/2 all in a week. [this week to be exact] I’ve been lucky and know it. I’ve had no infections, bleeding, “breaks” in the skin, scars, etc. I also know I’ve pushed my luck, so I’m done for awhile. You have to understand what your doing and your own limits and the reality that you can screw yourself up and your the only one to blaim if that happens.
I recently strectched my ears from 7/16 to 1/2 after being at 7/16 for 2 months. I have my stretching done profeshionally as well. When sliding out the taper and putting the jewellery in, the woman had trouble and had to force the jewellery in. Later that night I noticed that my ears were bleeding and there is now a small flap of skin on one side. I know it’s not a blowout because it is very small but I really want to do everything I can before I remove it.
Scotia on August 11th, 2008 at 10:33 pmWhen I was young and stupid, I skipped a whole lotta sizes. This resulted in much bleeding and pus. I regretted that for years, as I waited for my body to break down the scar tissue. Finally, 8 years later, I was able to resume my stretching, much wiser about not skipping sizes.
Of course it’s “your fault” if you did something without having all the information. It’s not like that makes you a bad person, just ignorant. But if it’s not YOUR responsibility to educate yourself before attempting minor surgery, whose is it?
Mursaydees Okelli on March 26th, 2009 at 6:48 pmOf course it is your fault. Just becasue you didnt know that there was a size between is your own stupidity. You should have done more research. I strecthed from 00 to 1/2 and i knew that 7/16 was in between but i did it anyway and my ear is fine.
Jake on August 16th, 2009 at 11:21 amYour so dumb for doing that .
