Hey,

I’m considering getting a pubic piercing but i just have a question or two about it. First - rejection. Whilst I am aware all piercings carry that risk is this a commonly rejected piercing or merely a bit of migration? Secondly - jewellery. Barbell or surface bar? Surface bar seems like it might be a good idea as it would put less stress on the fistula exits but I may be talking out of my ass. It might be a negative sexually though?

Thanks for any info.

Migration and Rejection will vary from individual to individual. So as always its to be considered a 50/50 call on this matter, in all cases. Because even if the technique of insertion was correct and the right jewelry was used, etc. It heavily also falls upon the clients ability to properly care for the piercing, as well as just how your body wants to react to the jewelry being there.

Personally I would say a surface barbell would indeed be the ideal jewelry option to wear.

Of course in terms of “sexually” the negative would be: 1) you’d have to either abstain from sex for awhile to give your piercing the best chance it can to heal. 2) OR be very gentle and try not to cause too much trauma/impact to the piercing during the act. Of course sometimes with some people, #2 just is not an option ;)

  1. #2 … I’m certainly open to new things… and it sure beats option #1 ;-). Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

  2. The usual 2c from me:

My three pubic surface bars have been in for 5-6 months with no problems, I’ve downsized the balls on the lower two and they’ve been even more comfortable. My pubic microdermal which was placed lower towards the shaft - too low - rejected after only 3 months or so.

I was abstinent for maybe 2-3 months after initial piercing, this was partly personal choice as well as good healing practice at the time. The surface bars are still not fully healed enough to take rough sex, but they serve their function in sex with women most positively and are aesthetically pleasing (IMHO :D).

Like most genital piercings I find the pubics easy to LITFA, washing the area superficially with chlorhexidine in the shower daily along with all my piercings, and giving them a saline soak every month or so. So far they’re holding tight.

Internally threaded surface bars also give you the option of flat discs, which will make it a lot easier to remain sexually active during healing. My bars are cheaper externally threaded ones inserted with catheter needles, so this wasn’t an option for me, but healing has been satisfactory nonetheless. Best of luck!

  3. my flatmate has had his pubic surface piercing for around 5 years. Maybe he’s just lucky, but they can last a long time if done right

  4. Alice: As stated its not just about being done right with the right jewelry, etc its up to the clients ability to properly care for it, as well as if their body just naturally will accept it there.

  5. warren, I am aware of this, plus he seems to have a freakishy good ability to heal stuff. Basically I think he was lucky, but I just wanted to post as these things can be possible.
