Hey,
I was wondering if there is any effective way to numb my penis for a prince Albert piercing without novacaine.
Im no stranger to mods (16 facial piercings, multiple tattoos, etc) and I have had it done before, but had to take it out for personal reasons. I loved the piercing, but getting it was rather uncomfortable getting it, so I’d like to avoid it if possible. If its just impractical, and I jut need to man up, so be it.
Thanks for reading,
Butcher
Well Butcher first out of curiosity, what exactly was it about the first Prince Albert attempt that you felt uncomfortable? Was it the Receiver Tube? The needle passing through or the jewelry insertion?
You can use a Xylocaine Jelly based anesthetic, without Epinepherine, which can be applied into the urethra (ie: take a q-tip and apply the jelly onto it and insert it into the urethra around where the needle would be passed through). You can also obtain a produce called: EMLA; however you will want to make sure its completely cleaned off the surface area before piercing.
Usually though with my clients I tend to advise them that anesthetics are usually not needed as the pain will be minimal. I think the only time I’ve ever used any anesthetics with PA’s is when I did my 4ga PA by myself, mostly just to take the “edge” off since I was doing the procedure myself to myself.
Realistically though all you’d need, if anything, is the Xylocaine Jelly, that is if you REALLY MUST/NEED to use an anesthetic. But just know that even though it was uncomfortable the first time around, doesn’t always mean it’ll hurt the same or worse the second time.

Hey Warren,
Thanks for the prompt feed back, I should have been more specific. The part that was uncomfortable was the needle insertion itself. Im cool with the receiving tube, its just the needle portion that sucked.
Im familiar with EMLA, but from what I heard, it only works on the outer most skin, not the actual penile tissue.
Butcher on August 7th, 2008 at 7:48 pmA few words about EMLA: it’s very effective at dulling the sharp pain of the needle, almost as much as an injectable, although as Warren says it’s probably overkill and it won’t change the feeling of the receiving tube. If you do try to use it, be warned that reactions to sensitive parts of the body are common, even though it’s indicated for genital use medically. After using it for my apadravya, my foreskin ballooned to a swollen donut for 3 days. Friends and online anecdotes have reported similar sensitivity on the shaft skin. Give it a test run a week ahead to see if you have a negative reaction or if it’s even worth using.
Most importantly, you must take GREAT care not to let the EMLA make contact with the urethra. John Cobb’s BME wiki page mentions his unpleasant experience burning off much of his urethra with EMLA, this reaction is well documented in the mod community. The Xylocaine jelly I buy over the counter in Australia is actually *designed* for urethral use, and has a handy little squirter nozzle attachment if you really want to party. During the apa above, I used urethral Xylocaine as well as EMLA to make the receiving tube more comfortable, especially important as it was freehanded. Retrospectively, as Warren says, the Xylocaine was probably all I needed, even for a more “severe” piercing.
If it’s mostly about making the receiving tube less painful, the other thing you could do is to try some progressively larger sounding in the month(s) leading up to the piercing to expand your urethra to make more room for the receiving tube. Even if you use both, this will probably help much more than the Xylocaine. You can use Xylocaine jelly initially to lubricate the (sterilized!) sounds if it’s hard to get started. I wish I’d had the foresight to sound before getting the apadravya, as it would not only have made the initial piercing more comfortable but also it wouldn’t have hurt to piss for the first week while my urethra stretched to accommodate the 3.2mm of metal that was blocking it…
Oh, and squirt the xylocaine onto a sterile pad or at least a well washed hand before applying, don’t use it straight from the tube or you’ll contaminate it since it’s really intended for single use only. And even if you do use xylocaine jelly, manning up won’t hurt either
No, really, it will hurt more if you think it’s going to hurt! Good luck
