Lip Ring

I’ve had my lip pierced for about 6 months now; I had it pierced with a bigger ring for swelling purposes and I haven’t changed it since. It tore a bit so I went to the place that I got it done at and they said it could possibly heal although it had migrated as well as torn. I’m wondering if I should try to wait it and out and see how it feels, or if I the irritation could be from having such a large ring still?
I don’t pierce center placed lip piercings with CBRs for this reason.
Your irritation could definitely be from wearing a large ring in the piercing.
I would suggest you put in a longer flatback labret barbell and heal it with that. Once the piercing settles down you can begin to downsize the barbell until all the residual swelling subsides. From here you should be able to comfortably wear a CBR in it.

After reading this I was curious about my own center lip piercing. I had it done with a cbr, and no problems with it as far as healing. I have some minor gum erosion after 6 years, but I knew that was a possibility when I got it done. Anyway, since it has been pierced and healed with a cbr I have found it near impossible to wear a labret barbell at all. I think my piercing was done on a slight downward angle, thus when I attempt to wear a labret post the bottom disk doesn’t sit flush with the inside part of my lip like my cbr does. I’ve tried different lengths, but with the same problem. I’m not really worried, I like my cbr better anyway, but I was just curious should lip jewelry be as easily interchangeable as you say?
Alex on August 14th, 2008 at 12:53 pmMy ring is actually on the right side of my lip, I should’ve been more specific. sorry! I’m definetely worried about putting in a retainer, because of the angle it’s pierced at… due to the migration and whatnot. Do you think that’s a good idea? [similiar to Alex's post]

redeye on August 16th, 2008 at 7:39 amErgh I just read Lexci’s suggestion to downsize the length of your labret post and saw the ambiguity in my comment - I was referring to gauge. I had meant don’t lower the gauge below 14, and if it’s already that fine, have a 14g post tapered in and buy a thicker, smaller diameter ring when you’re ready.
Most people around here never seem to downsize the length of their labret posts adequately as swelling subsides. It’s become a pet peeve of mine, not only does it look terrible and means they have invested little in caring for their piercing, it also greatly increases the risk of gum erosion. The same applies to lip rings, if they’re not snug you’re risking your teeth and gums. Just bite the bullet and accept that you can’t use the same piece of jewelry for the entire life of many piercings!
