Piercing

I got my nipples pierced about 3 weeks ago. I haven’t had any problems or signs of infection, but for the past few days, I’ve been having trouble turning the rings. It almost feels like it’s healing too tightly or something. They don’t want to move when I try to turn them, and it’s starting to hurt to do so. I’m just wondering if this is normal or if I should be concerned about it.

Why are you trying to turn the rings? Please tell me this wasn’t the advice you were given by your piercer? Piercings heal from the outside inwards so moving the jewellery in a healing piercing only serves to damage the tissue, cause irritation and lengthen the healing process - hence the pain - you bodys way of saying ’stop it, you’re harming me’. The key to healing trouble-free piercings is more a case of what you don’t do to them, rather than what you do do to them. My advice - leave them alone, don’t turn them, don’t play with them.. whatever, and continue with nothing more than your twice-daily seasalt soaks.

  1. Actually, my piercer DID tell me that I should turn them whenever I clean them. Lol, glad I asked then. He also didn’t say anything about soaking in sea salt. He just told me that I should clean them 3 times a day with antibacterial soap. I also use H2Ocean spray on them, which is sterilized sea water.

  2. There’s no need for antibacterial soap :) Sea salt soaks (warm ones) will be enough!

  3. Anti-Bacterial soap in constant usage such as 3 times a day retards resident bacterial growth on the human body. With the less resident bacteria growing on the body to protect against transient bacteria you can be more open to bacterial invasions/infections,etc.

you should only be using a very mild/sensitive liquid body cleanser when showering and nothing else, other then the sea salt, etc.

Won’t get into h2ocean as there’s two different camps in that…people who like it and people who don’t *shrugs*

  4. Actually, it would be great if someone could give me a little more info about H2Ocean. I’ve only been using it because I really like their tattoo aftercare products but obviously tats and piercings are two completely different things. Despite taking some bad advice from my piercer, I usually try to do my homework about stuff like this. Unfortunately, the only info I’ve been able to find is from the H2Ocean website and obviously that’s a little biased.
Oh, and I’d like to add that since I’ve stopped turning them and using the antibacterial soap, my piercings are much much happier. They aren’t nearly as sore and they’re a lot cleaner(almost no discharge, no icky crusties or anything). Thanks a lot for your advice. I’ll be passing it on to my piercer the next time I see him.

  5. This girl I knew in school got her nipples pierced and told me her piercer told her to rotate the jewelry. I, literally, almost fell over because I know just cleaning a fresh piercing can hurt, I can’t imagine moving it! I told her she should stop, but needless to say, she refused to listen because what do I know:|

  6. Actually, neither rotating the jewelry nor cleaning hurt at all when I first started doing it. It wasn’t until a few weeks in that I started having problems.
