First time suspension

I live in Milwaukee, WI and I’m wondering if there’s anyplace reputable near here to get suspended. The only place I know of is a tat shop that does it illegally(no license) and there’s no way I’m going there, obviously. I’m also wondering what kinds of questions I should ask to make sure they actually know what they’re doing before deciding where to go.

Swing on over to http://suspension.org/groups.htm and check things out. The basic questions I would ask would be:

How long have they been doing this?
Who taught them the “ropes” (bad pun) and how many suspensions have they performed?
Are they primarily a performance group or do they do private ritual type suspensions? Are they attached to a shop? Do they have sterilization equipment?

This experience should be very special to you- if at any point you get a negative feeling from them- move on.

  1. Actually, I’ve been to suspension.org and a couple of other sites. The problem is, I can’t figure out how to make an account to participate in the forums there(from what I’ve read, they’ve deliberately made it difficult to sign up because they’ve had problems with trolls/flamers)and they don’t really have info about specific groups. There’s only one group listed in my area and virtually no information given about them, beyond the fact that, yes, they do suspension. That kinda worries me because it seems like if they were any good, somebody would have mentioned it.
I’m glad you say that it should be a special experience, though. My friends who have done it try to play it off like it’s no big deal–they go in, hang for a while, and go on their merry way. I don’t know if they’re playing down the experience to make themselves look tough or if it really was that blase but I do know that’s not what I’m looking for, especially my first time doing it. Suspension has always struck me as being a profoundly spiritual and personal act, which is what draws me to it to begin with. I guess I’m just looking for something a little more personal than FAQ’s from various websites before I go in, but I don’t really know where to get it.
Ok…yeah…I just reread that and it’s long…very long. Sorry about that. Guess I shouldn’t post after I’ve been drinking. O.o

  2. I like to hear someone differentiating between ‘performance suspension’ and ‘private/ritual’ suspension. I have been pondering the diffences these last few days.

  4. So I found a dude who does suspension and we sat and talked about it for a good hour. He was really knowledgeable, which I found very reassuring but I think what really sold me was the fact that he’s done suspension with Allen Falkner. O_O
Can’t really ask for a better referral than that. Anyway, thanks again for your advice and stuff. Maybe I’ll come back and post a picture when I’m done. :D
