I had my eyebrow pieced a couple of months ago and it seems to be healing fairly well. However, the end of the barbell won’t come off… Probably because I failed to check the ball every day and some crust got into the screw and hardened or something.
Has anyone else had similar problems?
I’ve left it as it is because it wasn’t really a major problem, but I have a job interview in a few weeks and it would be really helpful if anyone could tell me a way to loosen the end and take it out. cheers.
I tend to really tighten balls on jewellery to prevent clients switching it out after only eight weeks!
If you have to remove it then try gripping the balls with a bit of tissue or buy a pair of latex or nitrile (although latex is grippier) gloves. I would advise you visit a piercer after your interview to have them reinsert the jewellery using an insertion pin so’s to avoid any additional trauma as I’m pretty certain that in this time the fistula will shrink some and you will damage it by forcing jewellery back in as it isn’t fully healed.
Ideally, you shouldn’t be removing and reinserting jewellery in an eyebrow piercing for a minimum of four months - preferably longer.

if you’re going for a job interview where appearance matters, you’ll either have to get a clear retainer or sacrifice the piercing. it’s very unlikely you’ll be able to reinsert your jewelry after an hour if it’s only been pierced a couple of months.. maybe if you timed it to visit your studio immediately afterwards and have them taper it back in you’d have a chance, but it’s a big risk. your piercer should be able to suggest a discrete jewelry alternative, if not, run like hell and find one who can.
as tiff says, the piercing is too new to be swapping jewelry about slap dash - go see a piercer who can supply you with a quality quartz retainer and let *them* handle the jewelry swap.
redeye on September 20th, 2008 at 11:41 pmhonestly, i’ve had more luck just wearing the jewelry to the interview than taking it out. if you wear it and they don’t hire you, they probably wouldn’t have let you keep it anyway. if they mention something about taking it out, it gives you room to negotiate, and if they don’t say anything and hire you anyway, you’re more or less in the clear. i no longer remove facial jewelry for job interviews/internships.
