Hey
I have wanted my outer conch pierced for quite a while now, but i’ve always been scared of anyone coming anywhere near me with a needle
Anyway, I was wondering if there are any veins or nerves in that area of the ear, or anything else that i culd cause damage to
Thanks in advance
I’m afraid we are not a ‘how to’ guide on self piercing. What I can say, though, is that you will have a far easier ride if you do pluck up the courage to visit a professional. I’m sure I can speak on behalf of my colleagues when I say this, but we do get our fair share of needle-phobics through the door. A good piercer will be able to do a grand job of putting you at ease, giving you time to relax, talking you through the procedure, answering any questions and making your piercing experience a pleasant one. If you are that nervous then pop down to your local, reputable studio and have an informal chat with the piercer, then book in for a later date. If you go to a good piercer, the one thing I can guarantee is that it won’t be half as bad an experience as you fear.

Excellent advice ^^^
And I’d like to add that just the fact that you’re wondering if there are any veins or nerves that you may damage in that specific area means you haven’t finished your research. Moreso, do you have the proper materials? Everything steralized and your clean area ready?

I pierced my own inner conch (more out of curiosity than anything else), and my hands were shaking pretty badly. It took a while to get them to settle down so I could do it. You might find that it’s easier to let someone else do it in the end.
Xenobiologista on October 17th, 2008 at 9:32 pmI can definitely say I am TERRIFIED of needles or anything sharp coming near me. I have even hyperventilated at the doctors office and once almost kicked the doctor. I have had 7 piercings to date and did none of them myself. It’s a scary experience, but it’s really the anticipation that kills, once they’re actually doing the piercing it’s kind of a non-issue. I’d say what works for me is grit your teeth and bare it knowing that once they’ve poked you it’ll be over in a sec and you don’t have to worry about it anymore. Also don’t look as that will tend to freak you out because you know exactly when it’s coming.
