So I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a studio in Toronto that does really good custom jewellery. My request is actually quite simple, a 14g ss nostril screw at the right length, but these are actually hard to find. I also find the online stores that have done them for me can never get it just right, so I would prefer to talk to a real person.
Any help is appretiated…
You can search studios via 411.BMEzine.com
To make it simple for you here’s the search you’re looking for: http://411.bmezine.com/studios/regional/north-america/canada/ontario
Personally if you came to me, and I was back working in Toronto, I’d be getting in touch with Anatometal or Infinite Body to obtain what you are looking for.
One question though are you looking for an actual Nostril Screw in 14ga or would you like a Labret Stud instead? Personally when I had my nostrils pierced I used 14ga Neometal Threadless Labrets. I found the labret stud worked best as there was no need to bend the jewelry at all, all I needed to do is measure the width and that’s it. Hence why I personally switched over to using labret studs almost exclusively when I was working in Niagara Falls. That way nobody had to really worry about the inner portion hanging out or not being bent properly, etc.

and a thumbs-up from me too regarding Neometal threadless labrets for initial nostril jewellery.
Tiff Badhairdo on October 4th, 2008 at 12:06 pmthe only thing that’s kept me from going this route so far is the fact that I have a semi-deep nostril piercing, and already have issues getting jewelry in. how exactly does one go about getting the back of a labret stud into your nose, pointed the correct direction, and inserted into the hole (in the case of Neometal) or get the labret post screwed onto the back (in the case of traditional labret jewelry)?
dryxi on October 4th, 2008 at 10:16 pmdryxi: deep as in high placement? If you were pierced incorrectly and its causing issues getting jewelry in,etc then it can be tricky with any piece of jewelry.
with a labret stud you can have a piercer help insert the jewelry into your nose and afterwards you should be able to change the ball/gem/spike ends yourself by sticking your finger up your nose and using that as a helper to hold it still, or you can invest in purchasing a hemostat to grab the post and what not, etc.
Personally I prefer using the NeoMetal ones for nostrils over External or Internal labret studs.
For an after nostril placement you can tilt the nostril upward a bit and see the piercing pathway and then using your other hand you bring the jewelry to the piercing pathway and insert it that way.
Just like nostril screws, labret stud insertion takes a bit of tries to get it down tight.
Warren Hiller on October 4th, 2008 at 10:28 pmyeah, I meant deep as in high. I chose the spot, but in retrospect I should have let the piercer choose, I can’t wear rings very easily (the diameter just has to be huge) any time I have to adjust my piercing inside my nose (such as when I’m guiding a retainer in) it gets a bit tricky. I’ve been frustrated with screws for some time now, and read that bones were a bad deal, so I may very well look into Neometal a little more closely.
dryxi on October 5th, 2008 at 11:44 amI’m very picky on my nostril piercing placements and often inform clients on complications, if they decide…Sometimes piercers just know about placement concerns, so clients can’t always get what they initially think where they want something. With standard nostrils I don’t go too high nor too low. Not too far to the tip of the nose nor too close to where the nose and face join, etc. Essentially the precise middle region of the nose and I analyze from all angles, etc.
I’d definitely suggest getting a NeoMetal threadless labret or you can even get an Internally Threaded one and just have the piercer insert it using either a pin or threaded taper.
Warren Hiller on October 5th, 2008 at 6:08 pmOut of curiosity Warren, what’s your preferred jewelry for high nostrils?
redeye on October 6th, 2008 at 4:03 amredeye: gauge wise? length wise? jewelry design wise? lol
Gauge wise will vary from 18ga-14ga. Length wise will be determined by the individuals nose thickness. Design wise, Threadless or Internal Threaded labret studs
Warren Hiller on October 6th, 2008 at 12:41 pmyeah all of the above
and the one thing you didn’t tell me
what sort of diameter labret backs tend to be comfortable with high placement?
