I bought some piercing needles online the other day. When they arrived, the chemical sterilization packaging has an expiration date on it that is long over expired.
Are these safe to use?
I contacted the seller and they said they are fine but I wanted to check with someone I trust.
Thanks!
If the expiration date has expired then sterility cannot be guaranteed. It’s up to you whether or not you wish to take that risk.

I say take the loss and buy new needles. I was going to say from BMEShop, but you would have done that already if the site wasn’t down.
Jay on October 10th, 2008 at 11:53 amI work in a medical setting. If we get expired products, sterile or otherwise, we send them back, no questions asked.
The fact that they were LONG expired, and your supplier says they’re fine to use makes me question where THEY got them.
Send ‘em back. And if they don’t want them, chuck them.

Clara on October 11th, 2008 at 8:54 amIf you really want to run the risk of getting an incurable disease, I’d say go for it. But personaly, to me, it just isn’t worth the risk. I would email the company back and tell them you want a refund. it might be delayed, and you may have to ship the product back, but they should not have sent you needels with an expired sanitary date.
Jay on October 11th, 2008 at 10:52 amThis sounds like a shady place, send them demand a refund, any place that sells expired needles, let alone will not replace expired needles has to be right up there on the shady side.

Yes, but you’d have to re package them in suitable autoclave packaging. Not worth it for needles, imo.
Xan on October 11th, 2008 at 4:11 pmAnd if you have access to an autoclave, why bother buying pre-sterilized needles in the first place?
Suitable autoclave packaging = aluminium foil wrapped up carefully.
