What’s the best cold-weather jewelry for stretched lobes?

Brr! Winter’s coming to New England again, and I’m not sure what’s best to wear in my stretched lobes. Steel? Stone? Silicone? (My lobes don’t seem to like wood for long periods of time.)
How can I give my piercings some cold-weather TLC?
Thanks very much!
When I lived in Alaska, I always liked wood or horn jewellery in the wintertime! Wood does dry out quickly in dry, cold weather, so keep your organics well-oiled to keep your ears happy. Otherwise, why not try out silicone? Out of the options you’ve listed, that seems the least likely to chill quickly to me!

During the winter months when I lived on the east coast near the water I kept wood plugs in my ears. Sometimes I couldn’t tell if my lobes were getting too cold, so I took extra precautions when I realized this. I would keep a scarf on and tucked my lobes in under that, and wore a pulled down as far as I could to try and protect them. I noticed once I started keeping them covered, they were a lot more comfortable and less dry…. Just thought I would share!
Danielle on December 1st, 2008 at 8:07 pmI just switched to silicone and so far my lobes have been quite happy in the cold weather.

AmiiMetalFace on December 4th, 2008 at 6:28 amI live in Central Scotland, and believe me, it’s been absolutely BALTIC in the past couple of months. No Autumn, just hit straight onto winter
As I was a bit skint and my ears became dry because of the weather, I took out my titanium tunnels and fitted new silicone ones. I may never look back - i adore it now haha
PS; Danielle, I’m so stealing your scarf idea! Earmuffs are a bit uncomfy for my lobes
Silicone, Proper quality PTFE/Teflon, Wood, Horn, Bone.
Just not steel, titaniu, stone, glass, etc…Not unless you like the frost-bite.
Warren Hiller on December 4th, 2008 at 3:26 pmi’ve found silicone to be the best in cold weather. but every couple of days or so i find i need to moisturise my lobes to keep them happy.
helanus on December 4th, 2008 at 5:38 pmI live in northern Ontario, Canada. I work outside all year and have been wearing pyrex for the past 3 winters with zero problems with frostbite..
