i got a 4th hole in my lobe about 3 months ago and it was doing fine for about 3 weeks and then it started to bleed and crust alot. i has continued to bleed and crust every day since, i’ve been cleaning it 6% hydrogen peroxide (Which i have used on every one of my other piercings and it’s worked a treat) but this time it isn’t working.
i’ve seen my piercer and she’s just told me to continue with the peroxide and give it time.
all my other piercings have stopped bleeding and crusitng within three months (including my vertical industrial) so i’m a bit miffed about this one!
I don’t wear steel as i have a reaction to it, so I have a titanum BCR in.
Hydrogen peroxide is a skin irritant. It’s great for cleaning sloughy wounds buit will irritate the crap out of a fresh piercing. You are lucky that you have been fine with it in the past. Try twice daily seasalt soaks and don’t turn the jewellery.

Deadly Poison on December 9th, 2008 at 4:52 pmAgh, Well kids, Grandpa has a story for you so hop right up on his lap and lets begin.
It’s actually not that exciting, I just wanted to say that when I was a young nipper in high school I pierced my ears and cleaned them religiously with hydrogen peroxide. THEY NEVER HEALED. I gave them three months and they just never healed, presumably because the amount of cell damage done by the hydrogen peroxide was enough to stop healing.
H2O2 does some pretty funky chemistry and does not differentiate between bacteria and the new cells of your body’s immature fistula.
JoeP on December 9th, 2008 at 10:57 pmsee ive never had issues with hydrogen peroxide before, my usual piercer gives the sutff out as aftercare, and i’ve always healed well with it.
Deadly Poison on December 15th, 2008 at 3:47 pmits just this one piercing, that is STILL messing up, my mum has been doing the salt soaks (cuz she can see what she’s doing better than i can) and my ear just has dry skin now. its still weeping and crusting and such.
Make sure you get the concentration right - 1/8th teaspooon to 200mls water. Too strong and it will cause the piercing to dry out. If you are in any doubt then opt for pre-packaged saline wound wash with no other additives, available from the chemists.
Tiff Badhairdo on December 19th, 2008 at 11:03 ami’ve resorted to taking it out. it wasn’t infected it was just irritated and its healed over fine.
Deadly Poison on December 20th, 2008 at 11:45 amit got quite bad the past couple of days, lots of crusties and dry blood, i guess my body is not in a healing mood!
