0 To 00 Lobes

Today I bought 00 gauge tapers and plugs. I had been at 0 gauge for about a year, and thought it was time to stretch some more. When I got home I compared the 00 gauge tapers to my old 0 gauge tapers and they didn’t look too different - the 00 gauge ones were slightly bigger, but not very much so. I thought that was a little weird because I’ve always heard that 0 to 00 is supposed to be a big step. So I put the tapers in, and they slid in without any fuss. Just a miniscule amount of pain. I put the 00 gauge plugs in immediately and they fit great. So my question is, is 0 to 00 not that big of a step, or did I get duped at the store and wasn’t really sold 00 gauge earrings?
The difference between 0g and 00g is 2mm. Which isn’t that much of a size difference as far as most things go, but depending on how ready your lobes are to stretch up a size, it could be huge.
If they slid in with ease, it sounds like they were probably ready.
It shouldn’t hurt to stretch your lobes if you’re doing it properly.

Thanks. For some reason I had heard 0 to 00 was a big step. It didn’t hurt, it was just slightly uncomfortable, which was new to me since I hadn’t waited as long in between prior stretches. Thanks again for the reply, this is a great forum you provide!
Kate on January 5th, 2009 at 5:38 pmDepending on the manufacturer, 00g can usually either be a 9mm or a 10mm. Maybe you got a 9mm piece.
Lauren on January 6th, 2009 at 11:03 amsurely 00g is 9mm, so only a 1mm raise from 0g?
mike on January 6th, 2009 at 6:56 pmSame thing happened to me, and I kind of got angry because I like the feeling of the stretch.
So I just went and bought a pair with big flares.
Muna on January 7th, 2009 at 11:34 amI thought the same thing when I went from 0g to 00g. I was like ugh crap they mustve labeled them wrong and gave me 0g.
kenneth alan on January 7th, 2009 at 11:47 amWell according to the BME Encyclopedia gauge chart, 0 is 8.25mm and 00 is 10.4mm. I could have gotten 9mm earrings, but I think the big difference was the length of time I had waited in between stretching (a year or so). I had always read that stretching isn’t supposed to hurt, but until now I never realized how true that could be.
Kate on January 9th, 2009 at 11:09 pmSee this is the problem with the gauge system, my ears are currently at 10mm, but ‘00g’ jewelry I have bought from the US ranges between 9-10mm [I've measured it with calipers] depending on manufacturer and there appears to be little consistency. So if you’re curious, get yourself a digital caliper and measure the taper/jewelry you used and that will tell you exactly how much you stretched up!!!
