Piercing Inverted Nipples

I want to have my nipples pierced but they’re inverted. I read on your encyclopedia that it can be done, but mine don’t simply ‘pop out’ like the article mentions. They are really ‘in there’, if you understand me. A friend recommended apllying ice, but it has the opposite effect to normal; they shrink in further. Applying heat doesn’t get them out very far either.
Assuming I can convince them to come out far enough to get pierced, my idea was to wear Bioplast bars as the initial jewelry, so that the inward-pull caused by my nipples doesn’t result in too much pressure on the piercing (the bars will bend under the pull), then, once healing is done, switch to metal bars. My eventual goal is to be able to wear nipple shields.
My piercer has done inverted nipples before, but not like mine that pull in so hard, hence the reason we’d like a second opinion.
Would my plan be viable or would you suggest something else?
Many thanks
For the most part, most inverted nipples can be worked out enough to be pierced with a thicker gauge (12g+) barbell (I tend to use curves for inverted nipples.)
That said, some people just don’t have the correct anatomy for nipple piercings and I have to suggest they consider piercing something else.
In my opinion, if your nipples cannot be gently worked out to be pierced, I wouldn’t do them. The pressure against the piercing as your nipples are trying to sit back in their intended, natural position will cause enough irritation for them to reject entirely.

The whole reason I got my nipples pierced in the first place was because they were inverted. They are not inverted now….even without jewelry in.
Melody on January 6th, 2009 at 12:32 amSee personally, I would try ‘deep’ nipple piercings; through the aerola (sp, sorry?)…that way, you’ll have a bar going through your inside out nips if you see what I mean
good luck with whichever you choose though!
AmiiMetalFace on January 6th, 2009 at 8:24 pmI know surgery exists to “correct” inverted nipples; I wonder if it’d be possible to pierce them once un-inverted or whether the mass would be forever covered in scar tissue? It’s something I’m curious about as I also have extremely inverted nips. If I’m unable to pierce them, I’m thinking of having them removed altogether…
ara on January 6th, 2009 at 8:39 pmMy partner has inverted nipples that do not come out. i was given permission to pierce them as a expierament sortof as i was unsure if such inverted nipples could be coaxed to become uninverted with a piercing.
I found this highly unsucessful. The piercing did work, the nipples were forced out after the piercing without going into the areola. Unfortunently my partner was also in extreme pain as well, and we decided to take them out after a couple of hours of this sensation not subsiding any.
I found no other examples of this piercing being done to suggest this will happen everytime. Maybe bio bars, maybe banana bars to relieve the pressure. Im not sure, has anyone else done this piercing on extremely inverted nipples and had success?

Warren Hiller on January 9th, 2009 at 1:06 amI had seriously inverted nipples and after about two years of dedicated attention from my partner, they slowly stopped being inverted. Now I’m pregnant, they’re totally not inverted at all. Just a thought.
Ananke on January 10th, 2009 at 2:10 amSpeaking of piercing the areola, I’ve seen a tiny handful of “nipple surface piercings” in the BME gallery…I’ve always wondered how those healed up for those women.
ara on January 13th, 2009 at 8:56 pmI also have inverted nipples. I have had them pierced for about a month. I had them pierced so eventually they would come out. They look great but they havent come out entirly yet. The piercer had to do a “deep” piercing to get underneath the nipple so it could eventually come out. They have become very sensitive, in a good way and do come out but they do not stay out all the time. Then again everyone is different. even tho they are not out all the time i do have a higher self esteem knowing that in time they could be.
Maddy on January 20th, 2009 at 5:48 pmgo for it! you have nothing to lose!
Warren; it was a joke, love. You clearly cannot do that.
AmiiMetalFace on February 2nd, 2009 at 2:21 pmI have looked into corrective surgery, for extremely inverted nipples they can get them out but in some cases (not all) they have to severe something which would mean you would not be able to breastfeed at all. Cost is about NZD$2000. I have a flat nipple, can be manipulated out and hard but usually retreats and hides after a while, if it was both i wouldn’t be so embarrassed, but am seriously thinking of getting it pierced now so it can stay out, has anyone been in my situation and had a successful piercing?
Mandy on April 5th, 2009 at 5:10 pmI would like to know an experianced piercer in Sheffield who is confidant piercing inveted nipples. Well I say inverted it has a more flat apperance. Any help would be very welcome.
Sarah on April 8th, 2009 at 3:41 pmI have inverted nipples as well and am considering a piercing. If it is just the fact that your nipples are inward that bothers you, look up something called the “Niplette”, a device created by an MD in Britain. It uses suction to evert the nipple and is recommend for women with inverted nipples who want to nurse. I used it for 3 months when I wasn’t pregnant and it drew out both nipples very well. They stayed everted for nearly a year, but I got lazy with the maintenance. It costs around $50 and may either take care of your nipples, or make it easier for them to be pierced. HTH.
Tonya on May 27th, 2009 at 7:34 pmI used the Avent Nipplettes for 10-14 hours a day - easy if you get a pair of nipple shells to contain them. Wore them for 2 months and my nipples were sufficiently everted to get them pierced at 1.6mm. Have stretched to 2.0mm with 6mm balls and am intending to eventually stretch to 3.2mm. Then I will get a pair of eyelets and some shields or trainers to pull them forwards. My theory is that 3.2mm will not migrate out even if the trainers are in all the time. The trainers are for 1.6mm but will fit inside the 3.2mm eyelets. I am taking photos at each stage - if it works out I will put it all in an article for BME…
ChrisD on August 10th, 2009 at 9:37 amwell kids, I’m a little late on this posting, but I wanted to share my experience with this type of piercing. I have inverted nipples and as a guy, have always been an embarrassment for me. I decided to have them pierced on my 22nd birthday 17 years ago and haven’t had any problems with them. I started with a 14g and stretched them to a 12 about 5 years after I got them done. They look good and I’m glad I did it. Now I take my shirt off when I go to the beach and after they healed I started sleeping shirtless, which was something I would never do before, even in the privacy of my own dark bedroom. The only thing I wish would have happened was to gain some sensitivity, but alas, that didn’t happen…but then again, I never really had much sensitivity before either.
Raul. on September 21st, 2009 at 3:49 amAs always, if you go this route, make sure to go to a reputable piercer, not some booth at a mall.
You can buy a device online for inverted nipples that will suck them out. It is like a big syringe. It hurts at first, but if you decide to do this, use the device several times to get used to your nipples being out. Then, take the device to a professional piercer and have them use it before they pierce. I did, and my nipples were extremely inverted. They have been pierced for over 3 years now.
