Scalpelling to fix off-center ear holes…

Hey,

About a year ago I removed my plugs and left my ear lobes empty of all jewelry. They have shrunk quite a bit and I always new my ears were kind of… off. I had my ears pierced at a young age and started stretching about 7 years ago so I honestly can’t remember my ears being how they appear now… Then again I was much younger. Anyway! My ear holes are thinner on the side close to my face. I have been considering scalpelling my ears to try and have a more centered look. I’m curious if this will really help. I only knew one person who had scalpelled their ears and he had aesthetically pleasing lobes in the first place…

I also had an issue with one of my ears not going past 5/8″ (though I never really forced anything in there, so I could be wrong… Maybe it is just a stubborn ear) If I do scalpel, is it possible that this may make going past 5/8″ comfortable/possible? I’m honestly just curious as I take some more time to think about this…

Thanks for taking your time to answer this and all. I appreciate the time you all take to answer questions, no matter how stupid or obvious or out there that they may seem.

xoxo

These issues are perfect reasons to consider scalpelling. The one thing I always mention when discussing scalpelling is the fact that often after scalpelling the next few sizes stretch easily, sometimes too easily. So make sure to mention your final size goal (if you have one) when discussing the procedure and of course make sure you find a reputable experienced practitioner to perform this modification.

  1. Thanks!! I’m really happy at the prospect of getting my ears fixed up! I’ve begun my search, and so far the one person I’ve found that I trust is away on vacation… I’ll be waiting this one out. Thanks so much, Sean. You definitely made this an easier decision to come to.

  2. this is way back. but in case someone searches and gets this, i figured i should post my input!

i had my ears scalpeled by a reputable piercing in my area, about 3 years ago (1/2″ to 5/8″, stretched to 3/4″ later), to try to even them out, and go up a size (they wouldnt stretch past 1/2″ naturally)…

be sure to talk to the artist, and discuss what exactly they are going to do to redirect the hole, and how it may look afterward. when mine were done, a single cut was made to direct them BACK. now i have uneven, unattractive lobes, while the jewelry is out. that wasnt the result i was hoping for, at all, unfortunately :(

its hard to describe, but basically since a straight line was cut back from the original hole it looked like this -O the tissue above and below the straight line had nowhere to go but out the back, so now my ears have what looks like blowouts on the rear/bottom of the holes. along with some flare-ups from accidents, like sleeping in jewelry, etc, the right ear has gotten much more pronounced and gross looking over the last few years. another thing that might have influenced the way my ears ended up was that the line went through an old piercing, that had been about 2ga at one point, but had since been left to close up. i think it might have caused some scar tissue to rear its ugly head.

so be cautious, and be informed!
