Short Tongue

I recently visited my local piercer to get my tongue pierced in the middle. I knew I have a fairly short tongue, but I didnt think it would be a problem. However, while the piercer checked my tongue for veins and so on, he said its far too short to comfortably pierce.

I have my tongue web pierced but I’d happily retire that if I have to. I wouldn’t go as far as a frenectomy but I really want to get my tongue pierced.

Should I visit another piercer and get a second opinion it? Or should I just forget about it and find something else to pierce?

Thanks =]

It’s very likely your tongue is too short to have a tongue piercing and have it not affect your tooth and gum tissue.
You can always seek out a second opinion, though I commend your regular piercer for putting the client’s best interest first over making a sale. Often, just because you can pass a needle and barbell through it, doesn’t mean that it’s suited to be a good, comfortable piercing.

Nape Piercing

Thursday February 5th, 2009 @ 12:24 PM

I’ve wanted my nape pierced for a while now but I’m worried about it rejecting. My piercer told me that 7 out of 10 nape peircings will reject. Is there any way of knowing whether or not it will reject before I get it done? I don’t really want to pay 60 euro for somnething that will reject straight away :D

7 out of 10! (I love baseless statistics) No, there’s no saying that your piercing will or will not reject.
While there’s always a risk, there are many things you can factor in to greatly reduce the risk of your piercing rejecting over time.

-Find a reputable piercer who has a portfolio to show you of fresh and healed surface piercings they’ve done.
-Ensure the placement of your piercing sits in an area that doesn’t run the risk of rubbing or catching on clothing or hair nor sits in an area of high movement.
-Opt for a “shorter” surface bar. I personally find greater success with surface piercings where the barbell isn’t longer than about 3/4″. The shorter the barbell, the less work the piercing has to do to drain
-be pierced with an actual surface bar. NOT a bendy piece of plastic or teflon tubing. I offer implant grade titanium, flat-based surface barbells to my clients.
-Wear flat discs on the barbell to reduce the risk of trauma to the piercing in day-to-day wear.
-Practise gentle but diligent aftercare. Hot compresses and minimal fussing help to promote healing without irritating these initially delicate piercings. Most importantly, be a clean, healthy person~!

With all of these factors in your favor, the likelihood of your piercing rejecting or you experiencing problems with it are greatly reduced.

Multiple nose piercings

Thursday February 5th, 2009 @ 12:21 PM

I currently have both nostrils pierced at 20g and am wanting to get my septum pierced with a 16g CBR.

As there is limited space inside the nose would there be any jewellery combinations that would assist with healing this, and anything to particularly watch out for. I normally just wear nostril screws, but have looked at the little flat back labret styles available as well.

Thanks for any advice.

Flatbacks in nostril piercings can be a great alternative to having so much metal up your nose with a septum piercing.
Some people may not have the best anatomy to accommodate both nostril piercings and a septum piercing, but your piercer will be able to determine that for sure after a quick peek. As long as your nostril jewelry isn’t hooking on to your septum jewelry you should be just fine to keep all three.

Labret Jewelry?

Thursday February 5th, 2009 @ 12:13 PM

I had my lip pierced with a titanum BCR. Bad idea, I suffered numerous problems, like swelling and irratation for about three months. Just as I thought it was calming down, it would flare up again. So I listened to friends with piercings, and went to get a labret stud put in. I’ve had a black bioplast stud put in. However, when it was put in, it bled a little.

It has now been about another three months since I have had the stud put in, and I’ve had NO problems reguarding irratation. And ive even been hit in the mouth.

My problem is, that I’m still getting crusties. Is this a problem at all, or is my body not compeletely happy with bioplast? If not, then should i switch to a titanium stud?

But I’m terrified of it getting irratated again. Also, I don’t want it to close up when I’m switching it out, because I love this piercing.

Thankyou for the help. BME rocks :)

Flatback barbells are the best choice for jewelry for initial lip piercings. However, bendy barbells made of bioplast can be irritating for new piercings because they move around so much.
You’re likely still having crusties forming as a result of the trauma of having the the jewelry changed and wearing jewelry that isn’t suited for long-term wear in the body (aka “Implant Grade”).

Find a piercer who carries implant grade steel or titanium or can order some in for you and have them safely switch your jewelry over for you.

Nape Piercing! HELP!

Thursday February 5th, 2009 @ 12:08 PM

Help!!

I have had my nape piercing for almost two years, and no problems yet.

About two weeks ago I noticed this cut or scar directly underneath the nape.

I thought it was maybe just a coincidence? And was hoping it had nothing to do with the nape?

picture:

http://s586.photobucket.com/albums/ss304/gustogirl/nape/?action=view&current=P1040415.jpg

I have been touching it lots ( I know… baaad)

And now the one side is forming not a bump.. but just seems infected.

Does it look like it is rejecting??

I really want to save my nape, and just need an opinion if it is rejecting or if there is anything I can put on it to make it heal?

I have been applying tea tree oil… anything else?

HELP GUYS.. I love my nape.. and ill be soo sad if it is rejecting :(

Thanks

Stop putting tea tree oil on it, PLEASE stop touching it and see a doctor immediately. You’ve got something seriously wrong with that piercing and it requires medical attention ASAP.
It is certainly rejecting, your body does not want it and I’d definitely assume you’ve got a good infection going on in there.

You will likely be required to remove the jewelry (It doesn’t look like it’s appropriate jewelry for a nape piercing anyway) but you could always consider having it repierced after you’ve had some treatment and it’s had time to heal up (a few months)
Seek out a reputable piercer using implant grade surface barbell jewelry and experience with surface piercings.
Good luck!

Getting my first VCH

Wednesday February 4th, 2009 @ 7:23 PM

I was thinking about getting a VCH and I was wondering if it might be right for me. I am a plus sized woman and want to know if my size would pose a problem. Also how do i know if my hood is the right size for a VCH? Thank you

Some questions are best answered by the person you plan to get pierced by.
There are a lot of plus sized women with hood piercings. Some no doubt have had issues, others love theirs and have no problems. Will it suit your particular anatomy? It’s impossible to say… so go in and get checked out. Good luck!

PA permanent reversal procedure?

Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 @ 3:07 PM

I have a number of old piercings, including a PA that was once stretched to 4ga but I no longer wear the jewelry. The only one that bothers me is the PA since it won’t close on it’s own and it can be messy still.

What is the procedure of reversing an unwanted PA permanently?

Thanks…

Reopening the wound and then closing it. Some people punch out the hole in hopes it will heal closed on it’s own. A better method would be minor surgery to reopen the hole and then suturing it closed. Definitely seek out an experienced practitioner and have them evaluate your individual case for you.

Tongue Split + Tuba?

Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 @ 3:06 PM

Hey, I would love to get my tongue split for many reasons. I am no stranger to modification, and I would love to have one. Here is the kicker: I am currently a music student in Ohio, and I have scholarships for my tuba playing. Has anyone EVER heard of brass players with split tongues? It would either make me unable to play (not an option right now), or ungodly good. If you have EVER heard of this, please let me know. I have never been able to find a brass player with a tongue split to ask them about it. Maybe this is not an option for me during undergrad, but I don’t want to try it until I find atleast ONE person who has attempted it. Thanks so much! - Raskin666

I am just replying in hopes someone will see this and can answer for you as I am rather curious myself.

Online body jewelry sites

Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 @ 2:59 PM

I’m in the market for some new plugs, and I usually get them from my local piercing shop, but they’re pretty expensive there. There are some sites online like hollywoodbodyjewelry.com that pay for ad space on Google that seem relatively legit, and they sell plugs wholesale for ridiculously cheap, like $1.50-$3 a piece. What do you think of these sites, are they safe to order from? Or should I stick with my local place. Thanks in advance, you guys rock.

Supporting your local shop is always your best bet. If it’s truly a good shop, they should be carrying good jewelry as well. Plus you have the support and help from your trusted piercer as well as helping to feed a “starving artist”. If you can’t find what you want there and have to order online try a respected site like bodyartforms.com that only carries high quality pieces. They have a good, well rounded selection but there are other legit places as well such as onetribe.nu for organics or glasswearstudios.com for glass. In any case do some research and realize if a price is super cheap, the jewelry usually is too.
