Hey,
I just got my tragus pierced, this being my 7th piercing, only the second one professionally done. They sold me H2Ocean sea salt spray and said that unlike the “old fashioned” way, I just had to spray my piercing and not rotate it at all or in anyway touch it or do anything but spray it 3-6 times a day. I’m not sure if I buy this, or if they were just trying to sell me the spray. Is there anything else I should do to the piercing to make sure the piercing heals right? My other piercings were just cleaned out with provon, but my other cartilage piercing got pretty infected. Let me know what you recommend.
Thanks!
It’s a good idea to remove crusties from the piercing once or twice a day. I tell my clients to do this by rinsing their piercing under warm running water till they soften and wash away.
At this time, you could wash your hands and gently adjust the way the jewelry is sitting and check barbell balls for tightness.)
After that, a bit of the aftercare spray sprayed on and left is all you need.
There’s no need to touch or rotate the jewelry otherwise.
Don’t fuss too much over it and your body will heal itself.

you really should listen to your piercers, they generally know what they are talking about.
hiddendragon on May 14th, 2009 at 6:18 pmhiddendragon- i’m gonna say that the majority of piercings done in the US are done by piercers that don’t know what they’re talking about with aftercare. people tend to just go to whoever has a special on $25 piercings.. and you get what you pay for.
bettiepage468 on May 15th, 2009 at 3:11 pmNot necessarily… there have been plenty of people that have written into BME with terrible advice from their piercers.
She/He is simply getting a second opinion - nothing wrong with that.
Rhiannon on May 15th, 2009 at 9:28 pma lot of “piercers” really don’t know what they’re talking about.
fireship on May 16th, 2009 at 3:31 pmokay guys if i must clarify, i (and many others on this site) only use the word “piercer” to describe a professional who works out of a reputable shop and does their work in such a manner. anyone else (and yes, i am now referring to every other being who failed to fall into the category of my first description) is just someone with a lac of understanding and a gruesome approach to the trade. not a professional piercer. the asker said they finally went to a “professional” so giving them the benefit of the doubt and attempting to bring a direct yet more kind tone to any comment section of bme, i was trying to say that the person they let shove a needle through their tragus did give them good information. so much for trying to be courteous.
