CBR trouble

I recently purchased a new CBR for my septum online, though due to the size of the bead and my lack of ring opening/closing pliers I am having trouble getting the bead to clip into the ring.

I was wondering if it was acceptable to go to a piercer’s to ask them to put it in for me, even if it wasn’t purchased in their studio, or is it bad taste?

If it is acceptable, would they charge, should I tip and roughly how much?

Thank you in advance.

It’s totally fine, they will probably charge you small fee for the service, and you are certainly welcome to tip if you feel so inclined! People often need help inserting or removing their jewellery, and most studios have no issues with helping with jewellery not purchased at that shop.

I never really seen the point in charging for change overs. Takes a few seconds and gives our studio a better name around the locals. Also. I wish ppl tipped me somedays lol

  2. Dion, we charge for jewellery changes for jewellery not purchased at our shop, because we get a LOT of people buying jewellery elsewhere and bringing it in and it is, after all, a service - it takes time, even if it’s only a few minutes, and it often takes the use of sterile tool (ring openers, etc) that cost money to purchase and to sterilize. I don’t charge to insert jewellery purchased at our shop, because I’m already making a sale in the jewellery purchase. I think it’s foolish to give your knowledge, tools, and skill away, frankly. And we get tips all the time!

  3. Around Winnipeg it’s 10-20 bucks for a change over. Which seems steep as shit to me. Soul Survivors is one of the highest charging for change overs.

  4. IIRC, Dion is based in Australia, where tipping is just about unheard of :)

  6. Tips aren’t unheard of in Australia, they’re just not expected like they are in the States. It’s always acceptable to offer a tip as a “thank you” for exceptional service, no matter where you live, and getting a service for free (or very low-cost, or whatever) is definitely cause for tipping. As I said, I get plenty of gratuities from people grateful for the level of service we provide. :)

  7. That is very true Lori.

We have been planning on starting to charge for outside jewellery/ change overs. But at the same time we rarely get alot of it. Our competition sends all there mistakes and things they can’t handle to us. So for that reason we’re going to charge to fix thier mistakes…

I just can’t handle seeing stupid mistake, done by stupid ppl. On simple things

I do believe i’ve had one tip ever but he was a mate a being a tool about it lol. So don’t know if that classes as a tip. lol.

TIME TO BUY A TIP JAR AGAIN ;p

I shall visit you one day Miss Lori, its a bit of a travel lol

  8. My piercer charged me $5 for changing the jewelry not bought from her shop (krazy kats tattoo/piercing charlotte NC), and free if the jewelry bought there, which I think is really reasonable.
