I have my ears stretched to a 5/8″ and have recently been thinking about taking them out. What are the chances of them going back to “normal”, or is plastic surgery the only way to go?
The chances of your ears going back to their original state is pretty slim. You can leave the jewelry out for a while and do some vigorous massages to help stimulate the blood flow and that should help shrink them back up a bit - but surgery is more or less your best option.

I just recently removed my 5/8ths lobes about three months ago and they have closed up A LOT more than i thought they would, but are by no means closed completely. Also, my left lobe shrunk way more than my right, strangely.
I will probably get cosmetic surgery to fix them at some point, as it basically looks like my lobes have slits through them (I have pretty fleshly earlobes, and it seems as though they just kind of folded into themselves). I work at a bank, with a pretty formal dress-code, and have had no problems with their appearance there. My surgery plans are basically due to aesthetic preference, rather than actually closing my lobes.
