Noticeable Bruising with a VCH?

Wednesday June 10th, 2009 @ 7:06 PM

I had my VCH piercing done about 4 days ago. I was expecting a little sore/tenderness in the area, and this hasn’t been troublesome - but I have noticed some bruising/discoloration 2 days ago, just on the area where the barbell sits underneath the skin- and haven’t read too many experiences regarding this. I’ve been following the aftercare diligently and don’t think it’s infected in any way.

So I was wondering if this is “normal” or is it a sign that I sould return to my piercer?

Also, generally how long will this (bruising) last?

Bruising is very common with new vertical hood piercings. Some people experience none, some a little bit of localized bruising, some can bruise really impressively.
Often with more extensive bruising there can be a bit more swelling and soreness around the area. Like any bruise, depending on the severity, it should go away in a week or so.

VCH Question

Monday April 27th, 2009 @ 10:42 PM

my piercer wants to do mine and my friends VCH’s with 14gauge 10mm diameter CBR’s. we’re both uncomfortable with this and no matter what i say she refused to even think of a curved barbell, and says we can change the jewellery after about 5 - 7 days.

is this OK or should i be finding someone else?

thank you.

I would personally look for someone else- you’ve told them what you want and it’s within reason; they’ve given you advice (changing it in a week) that I find to be questionable; they plan to pierce a hood at 14g…

All in all- and this is opinion- I say move along to someone else.

Hood Piercing and MRI

Friday March 20th, 2009 @ 6:45 PM

I’ve recently been in an accident where I had some neurological damage that’s being monitored by doctors. Through my Xrays and CT scans, it hasn’t been an issue having my 9 ear piercings, two navels, and my hood piercing. But for the MRI I’ve been cautioned that unless the metal I have in my piercings is for sure high-grade titanium, I could have some issues with getting an MRI. I’ve heard of the metal heating up or outright being pulled from my body because apparently MRI’s are big magnets? I don’t know. But anyway, taking my piercings out temporarily doesn’t bother me. I’m just having some difficulty with my hood piercing. I’ve had it for over 2 years now and I cannot get that sucker to budge. I’ve had a 16g gold barbell in there since I was first told I was able to change the jewelry. I’ve kept it clean and it’s been fantastic for me, but I’m kind of concerned about what would happen if I just left it in for the MRI? I fight with it for a couple of minutes everyday trying to get the balls loosened, but since it’s in such an awkward spot, I can’t really reach it with tools to stabilize the barbell and try to work at the ball a little better. And of course, my boyfriend is of no assistance. Sure, he loves the piercing, but ask him to help me get it out and he runs and hides and gets all grossed out, haha. Are there any tips and tricks that I could try at home by myself to get this bugger out or should I just suck it up and go see my piercer and throw them a nice tip to help me get it out? Ideally, I’d like to just get the jewelry loosened to where I could hop into the bathroom before my MRI and take it out and put it back in afterward. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely have a piercer help you loosen the barbell balls. We’ve got all kinds of tools and tricks (and experience and skill and the right angles) to get even the toughest stuck barbell balls loose.
DO NOT wear that jewelry in an MRI.

Getting my first VCH

Wednesday February 4th, 2009 @ 7:23 PM

I was thinking about getting a VCH and I was wondering if it might be right for me. I am a plus sized woman and want to know if my size would pose a problem. Also how do i know if my hood is the right size for a VCH? Thank you

Some questions are best answered by the person you plan to get pierced by.
There are a lot of plus sized women with hood piercings. Some no doubt have had issues, others love theirs and have no problems. Will it suit your particular anatomy? It’s impossible to say… so go in and get checked out. Good luck!

Triangle Piercings in Australia

Sunday November 30th, 2008 @ 10:55 AM

I know that a triangle piercing is considered an advanced piercing and therefore should only be done by a piercer with the experience to do it. So I was hoping that you could direct me to a piercer/s with the experience.

I’m in the Brisbane, Queensland area. I know that Anders is on the Gold Coast, so he will be one of the first piercers I’ll be talking to. Besides Anders do you know of any other piercers in Australia that are qualified to do a triangle piercing?

I know there is the wonderful Lori St Leone in Darwin, however seeing is she a little far from me it would have to be something that could wait until I decide to do my next round of travelling.

I have done a fair few triangle piercings, it’s true! Anders (and Karl, up at Puncture on the Sunny Coast) are probably the closest piercers to you who have a lot of experience with what you’re looking for, as far as I know. Good luck to you! :)

VCH pain, possible bruising?

Thursday November 20th, 2008 @ 1:35 PM

I got a VCH almost 3 years ago. It healed fine, in a matter of days. Have had no problems with it for the entire time. I have a curved barbell in there, same size that I always have had. Been wearing the same jewelry for at least 9 months. I have been experiencing some pretty intense pain, well, on the very sensitive area behind the jewelry. It has been going on for several days and I am wondering if it could possibly be due to bruising, and if so is the jewelry preventing it from healing? Will I have to take it out? I just can’t believe I’ve never had problems with it for years and now I am having trouble sitting in certain positions and having to adjust my junk pretty frequently, which is not very appropriate.

From what you say the piercing is well healed and your current jewellery has been fine for the best part of a year and only recently you have been getting pain behind the piercing. Can you think of anything you did immediately prior to the pain? A particularly energetic sex session, perhaps? If it isn’t from direct trauma then it could be that maybe you have something trapped under your hood between the piercing and skin that could be irritating it (I sometimes shudder at some of the gritty or glittery bits they put in soaps and other bath products!). Try removing the jewellery and flushing out your piercing with a very mild seasalt solution. If it is externally threaded jewellery, check that the ball is on tightly and none of the thread is exposed as that can ‘trap’ tissue and cause acute pinching sensation. The length of time that you have had this piercing and the jewellery suggests to me that your problem isn’t directly related to the piercing itself or the jewellery.

VCH

Friday September 26th, 2008 @ 11:42 PM

I just got my VCH pierced yesterday and the piercer used a 16g curved barbell….i wanted to know if this was a standard starting size for this type of piercing or if he used too small of a gauge? All my piercing are 14g+ so if it is an ok gauge to use how hard is it to gauge up to a 14g after the initial healing time?

16g is way too thin for genital piercings. Think ‘cheesewire’!
Give it a month and in that time be very careful with it and then pop a 14g piece of jewellery in there.

The term is to stretch up, not gauge up!

VCH piercing disappearing

Monday September 22nd, 2008 @ 10:35 AM

Hi, I got a VCH done a month ago today.

It has been fine (I think) up until yesterday when it started to feel a little uncomfortable.

When I got my mirror and viewed ‘down there’.. i noticed that the bottom end of the ball had disappeared inside :(

with clean hands i just pushed the top ball ever so slightly back down so you could see the top & bottom ball.

But I’m now very scared it’s gonna come out.

I’ve been cleaning it twice a day every day with sea salt & the special soap they give you at the piercing shops. Unfortunately I can’t go back to where I was pierced as I done it abroad in the only place I really trust to pierce me! - I’ve been there many times before, and I completely trust them.

So I don’t really know what to do? I really do not want to take it out & I’m hoping it will just heal somehow. But I’m concerned that the hole at the bottom of the piercing is just gonna get bigger & bigger which is why it disappears every now and then.

I won’t be going back to the shop until probably next year sometime.

I was pierced with a straight barbell I think if that helps atall?

Thank you in advance…

I’m afraid I’ll be somewhat limited as to what I can tell you since I can’t actually see the piercing, but here goes…

Is it possible that the jewelry is just moving up slightly, causing the ball to disappear under your hood, and not actually slide in to the piercing? If you are able to very easily slide the barbell back down, and there is no pressure or pulling or pain when you do that, it’s likely the ball isn’t going in to the actual piercing.

If you’re sure it is going in to the piercing itself, you likely need a slightly longer piece of jewelry…or perhaps a curved barbell instead of a straight barbell. If you aren’t comfortable changing the jewelry yourself then you will have to find a piercer in your area you are comfortable with.

It’s also possible that even if the ball is sliding in to your piercing, it won’t cause you any real issues. Although I definitely understand where you might not want to chance it.

Wanting a vch!

Friday August 22nd, 2008 @ 8:00 AM

I’ve been thinking about getting a vch but im confused about whats right for me. I read an article that mentioned making sure your body was right for a particular piercing, my question is how do i know my body is right for a vertical piercing? is there something i can do to check?

Well, you can use a cotton bud (Q-tip) or a toothpick (snip the point off first, mind, and round off the sharp edges!) and pop it under your hood. If you can get the item more than 10mm under the hood and it isn’t very tight then I’d say you’re fine for a VCH. Alternatively, pop down to a reputable piercers and ask them to take a look for you.

Microdermals on the Pubic area?

Thursday August 21st, 2008 @ 1:47 AM

I would like to have a microdermal placed near my pubic bone. What sort of aftercare would such a placement require? How long before I can resume sex? What clothing considerations should I have in mind?

Thank you for taking the time to answer these basic questions.

I’m finding more clients opting for dermal anchors in the pubic area instead of “Christina” piercings with curved or surface barbells.

Aftercare for anchors requires plenty of hot compresses to help promote circulation and draining as well as to encourage the anchor to “anchor” in nice and flat.
I tell my clients to use a waterproof, tight-fitting bandage on their anchors when they’re sleeping or participating in activities that may risk the anchor being snagged in it’s early several weeks of healing.

If the piercing was placed high enough on your pubic mound, you shouldn’t have to refrain from sexual activity if the piercing wasn’t coming into contact with fluids or suffering trauma from any impact…

You shouldn’t run into any issues with clothing as long as you’re exercising some common sense: Nothing lacy or holey that may catch on the piercing (and that includes NOT wearing any underwear and putting the piercing at risk of snagging on the inside of you jeans’ zipper…)

For the most part, I’ve found that people are pretty happy with the aesthetic results of pubic-placed anchors! I would recommend wearing flat discs on them for the first couple months, however.
