what is the best type of barbell for a VCH

i know a curved barbell is best,

but what about perfered gauge and length?

im new at this all,

i just need an idea before i get it done.

This question is a very loaded one…It’s like asking everyone what their favourite fruit is.

The reality is there are two different types of jewelry often used in VCH’s. The first is of course a Curved Barbell, while the second is a Straight Barbell.

When you visit the studio to get a VCH piercing, the piercer should be experienced enough to know to analyze the area in question to determine what is the most ideal option. This of course means getting you up on the table and taking measurements and seeing the size and shape of the hood in relation to the rest of your anatomy.

As for the gauge size and length, again this is just like trying to determine if a curved bar or straight bar is ideal for your specific anatomy requirements. I’ve done hoods as small as 14ga and as large as 8ga in thickness and jewelry length anywhere from 3/8″ to 5/8″ in length.

Essentially if the piercer doesn’t have a proper conversation with you to try and figure out what exactly it is you’re trying to achieve by getting this piercing (just the looks? want it for function?) and analyzing the area, that’s a sign you might want to look for someone else to do this piercing. As there is absolutely zero standard size, length, etc for this piercing. Just like how there isn’t for most piercings really, since everyone’s bodies are always slightly different in some way shape and form.

Inner Labial Cleaning Tips?

Tuesday May 20th, 2008 @ 4:16 AM

I have recently (two days ago) pierced my inner labia. Just a simple question, some say its best to leave them be, since urine acts as a sterilizer, while others say salt water soaks or water and soap soaks are best. I’d like to really know from BME. If you could tell me actually how to clean it, that’d be great. Thanks.

Some slight inaccuracies with this, mainly that: “Urine acts as a sterilizer.” For those reading this urine is not a liquid that sterilizes, urine when it freshly exits out of your own body it is sterile to yourself. So don’t anybody go peeing on people or storing urine in jars ok? ;)

Urine is sterile to your own body and essentially when urinating it can sometimes help flush the wounds out. Sometimes because there are certain genital piercings where urine just ain’t going to get at, without doing some really weird body positioning haha!

My personal and professional opinion is to use a combination of all 3. Urine because you DO have to go to the bathroom, don’t hold it in. Salt Water/Saline Soaks (mixed properly or buy Sterile 0.9% Sodium Chloride Wound Wash) roughly 1-2 a day depending on your lifestyle. Followed up of course with a proper body hygiene protocol of showering your body like you normally would with a very mild sensitive soap free cleanser, use fresh clean towels every time and wear clean clothes as well as change your bedsheets through-out the week.

So long as you maintain a proper body hygiene protocol, drink plenty of water, eat right and get a good night sleep your piercings should heal pretty close to problem free. However not everyone is able to live that kind of lifestyle perfectly, so the occasional Salt Water/Saline Soaks 1-2 a day will aid in flushing the wound out as well as promoting skin cell regeneration.

VCH PIERCING

Saturday May 17th, 2008 @ 12:45 PM

Hey there!

I am going to get a VCH peircing this week and would firstly like to know , what are the advantages & disadvantages of having a curved barbell or a CBR?.

what is the most common type of jewlery used?

Also i understand everyone has a different pain thresshold, but on a scale of 1 to 10 how intense would you describe the pain?

Thanks!

PIPA X

I honestly feel they are one of the same, really, and alot depends on the preference of the piercer. The advantages of a barbell is that it is easier to swap and change the jewellery yourself. The disadvantage is that I find they do tend to move about a fair bit. I have worn both BCRs and barbells in mine (when I had it) and had no issues with either. I was originally pierced with a BCR and had no discomfort during the healing time whatsoever and based on my own positive experience, tend to initially fit BCRs unless asked otherwise.

As for the pain factor - it tends to be a short, sharp shock and then no discomfort at all once the jewellery is in situ. Because the pain is short-lived you do tend to get a nice endorphine high post-piercing. Have fun!

Tender VCH pt 2

Wednesday May 14th, 2008 @ 5:55 PM

I posted about a month ago about my VCH. It was suggested that I changed the jeelery.. Here’s some background. I got it pierced 4.28 with a 14 g 3/8 curved barbel. Well about a month ago it started to hurt. So I had the bar lengthened because my piercer thought it was too short. They I had the style changed to a straight. And it still effing hurts. Infact, it hurts more. What can I do? I love this piercing but this isn’t worth it if I can’t make it stop. Its a constant deep bruise feeling all over it, but im not swollen or infected. Please help.

I’m personally not a fan of straight barbells in VCH piercings. I find them to be uncomfortable, even in a well-healed piercing. If I recall rightly, you stated that it was fine to start with and then it just flared up? Try a titanium curved barbell and see if that makes a difference - the metal is lighter than steel and it is hypo-allergenic due to it being nickel-free. Also, avoid wearing restrictive clothing like tight jeans for a couple of weeks until the piercing feels happy. It’s a good idea not to use any kind of soap products in that area too. It could also be a placement issue but that’s the best I can do, really, without actually seeing the piercing myself.

vch

Saturday May 10th, 2008 @ 7:17 AM

I got a vch over 2 years ago. It got a little torn about 2weeks ago but in the past week it’s become VERY swollen, and there’s lots of yellow gunk coming out of it.I’ve been cleaning it and salt water soaks. It’s not very sore. My piercer is about 100 miles away, and it’d be at least 10 days before I could get there. I’m going to go to the doctors as soon as possible. Help? I’m really worried…especially with the amount of swelling.

It’s quite a vascular area down there, so any trauma can result in marked localised swelling. The fact that it isn’t too painful is a good indicator that things may not be as bad as you think and discharge from infection does tend to be greenish yellowy brown and foul-smelling, however, I would still err on the side of caution and visit your doctor. You may also beneift from a longer piece of jewellery until the swelling subsides. Keep up with the twice daily seasalt soaks. For future reference, once it is all healed and happy you might want to consider tapering it up to a larger gauge (discuss this with your piercer on your next visit) as that may reduce the likelihood of future trauma.

Bioflex in VCH

Wednesday May 7th, 2008 @ 2:48 PM

I got my VCH pierced about a month ago with a curved barbell and now I want to change it. Would it be ok to change to a straight barbell that is made from the bio flex material? Would it irritate the area in any way or raise the chance of rejection? Thanks!

I don’t personally like using bioflex unless it’s deemed necessary in certain situations. If we’re talking about a healed piercing, I’d consider it as an option; but only when it’s a last resort. There are much better materials available that meet high standards and specifications in quality.

Since your VCH piercing was pierced with a curved barbell, putting in a straight piece of jewelry may also instigate complications. If you try this jewelry out, keep an eye on it and switch back to your original jewelry if any irritation follows.

Tender VCH

Hi,

I’ve got a 4 week old VCH (that I adore) and over the past couple days I’ve started to notice tenderness around the top hole only of the piercing. I can’t tell if the skin looks aggravated as its always pink.. And im not sure what’s going in. Im a little worried as I was barely suited to get it in the first place. I love it and I don’t wanna loose it. What could be causing this? There was no tenderness until a few days ago and I have changed nothing in my routine. Could it be rejecting?

A month old vertical clitoral hood piercing shouldn’t really be giving you problems. I’m thinking it could be a jewellery issue. You didn’t state what jewellery you have in there. It could be that the jewellery is too small for the piercing and the excess pressure this causes could be responsible for your discomfort. It might also be worth checking that the balls (in the case of a bar) haven’t come loose because if there is contact between the thread and your skin this would most definately cause discomfort. It could even be a material issue or a scratch on the surface of the jewellery. Try popping in some new jewellery and seeing if that helps. A decent piercer will be able to make sure you get the correct length and type for your particular piercing.

Being a little over-zealous with play can also result in tenderness!

Flat-backed labret studs for outer labia

Sunday April 27th, 2008 @ 11:53 PM

I’m not so keen on the idea of using CBRs for outer labia piercings, but would it be possible to use flat-backed labret studs for outer labia piercings? Would that style of stud be more comfortable than normal barbells?

I’ve always used barbells as the non-ring option for labia piercings, mostly just because my own personal experiments with wearing labret-type studs in my own labia piercings never ended well (I just found the disc REALLY pinchy and uncomfortable), and I had a client once who special ordered some large-gauge labrets for her own stretched outer labia piercings, and she got all kinds of weird ulceration/scarring from the rubbing of the edge of the disc and had to replace the discs with balls, ultimately. So together, those experiences have just made me really hinky about labret studs, heh. That being said, I know a LOT of women do wear labret studs in their genital piercings and are just fine with them, so if any labia-piercing-enhanced readers want to throw their two cents in with jewellery experiences, I’m all ears!

Bleeding Horizontal Hood

Tuesday March 11th, 2008 @ 6:37 PM

I just got my piercing yesterday and it hurt and it still hurts and it’s bleeding. Not a crazy blood flow it’s a very small amount of blood. But everywhere I’m reading on the internet alot of women didn’t bleed or it didn’t hurt much. I got it done by a reputable place the woman is a nursee.

I’m walking around like I just got off a horse. I love it and I think it was worth it and don’t want to take it out but how long should I expect it to hurt and bleed for?

I’m not even going to get into my feelings about medical professionals offering piercings - ok, I’ll briefly get into it, my experiences with medical professionals who pierce have been overwhelmingly negative, body piercing is certainly NOT taught in medical school or nursing college, and while there may be a few doctors and nurses doing a good job at it, the vast majority are almost certainly NOT doing it well, and generally have no clue about placement or jewellery selection, either. Ahem.

It’s normal for a genital piercing to spot-bleed in the first few days to a week after having it done, it shouldn’t more than a pantiliner could handle. Don’t start soaking the piercing while it’s still bleeding, obviously, as that will exacerbate the bleeding considerably! If it continues to hurt (and that is kind of unusual, most women find hood piercings to be fairly straightforward), I’d strongly advise you to find a reputable BODY PIERCER in your area and have a consult with them on the matter, they may be able to give you a lot more insight about the placement and jewellery choice than I can over the internet. And good luck with it. :)

clitoris hood piercing

Monday February 25th, 2008 @ 9:58 AM

I want to get a clitoris hood piercings, and I don’t like to shave because I usually get bumps when the hair starts growing back. I don’t have a lot of hair down there anyways but I wanted to know if I don’t shave will that be ok? Can they pierce my hood if I don’t shave ?

I also wanted to know why people keep saying that this piercing is not for everyone, how do I know if its not for me? Why do they have to check your vein pattern? Please some one answer these questions for me …I’m kind of nervous but I want it so bad!

First off, it’s really normal to be nervous before any piercing, especially a genital piercing, so don’t fret, it’s ok! :) No, you definitely don’t have to shave your pubic hair to get a hood piercing, so don’t worry about it if it’s not part of your normal routine. Technically speaking, you don’t have to shave before getting ANY genital piercings, although it does make placements like an outer labia or a christina a lot easier to scrub and mark up for your piercer. If it’s a bit TOO wild and jungle-y to work around, a piercer might trim some hair back with sterile scissors, but for a VCH that’s really not even necessary.

As for anatomical concerns, probably the easiest way to check at home if you’re suited for a hood piercing is to do the Q-tip test and make sure you have enough room down there to accommodate the piercing. Don’t worry about the veins/vasculature, your piercer will check to make sure that there’s nothing massive in the way, but it’s a very, very vascular part of the body and at least some bleeding is normal and expected. Again, don’t worry about it! Go to a piercer who makes you feel at ease and answers your questions calmly and confidently, someone with experience with genital work, and you will be just fine, I promise. :)
