hey! so i just got my left nostril pierced about 5/6 days ago. my piercer told me to use regular dial soap and warm water to clean it.. its not really irritated or swollen anymore except when i clean it the screw gets pulled out a little sometimes.. NOW.. my nose is chapped. i used peroxide on it ONCE a few days ago but nothing happened until today. is it normal for it to be chapped?? if so, what can i do to stop the pain/ chapping..

No, it’s not really normal for your nose to be chapped, but it’s pretty common with new piercings.
After you initially are pierced, a small amount of swelling occurs. This stretches and stresses the skin in the area and when the swelling comes down, that skin flakes away for the new layer underneath.
With new piercings, we tend to be so caught up in keeping them isolated from the rest of our bodies and our daily regimes that we forget to keep up with basic hygeine and grooming around the piercing site.
The face sloughs off a lot of skin cells every day. Some people use exfoliants to help this process.
While your nose is swelly and then not, and while you’re using a seriously chemical and very drying agent like Dial soap (I’d stop that if I were you) and possibly not scrubbing away dead skin on that nostril to avoid irritating the piercing - you’re gonna notice some chappy skin.

I recently got my septum re pierced because it was too low in my nose. When I got it re pierced it ended up being a lot higher (right below the cartilage in my nose). It’s been two weeks and I’ve been trying to take care of it as well as I can. I decided to try and put in a different ring just for a quick second to see what it would look like and when I tried putting in the captive ring that I have as well as my horseshoe ring (I was pierced with a retainer) they both hurt too much to put in as well as the captive ring just would fit in my nose. Is my piercing TOO high now compared to too low? Is it just way too soon to even try to put in a new ring? Am I stuck with wearing a retainer forever? I went to somewhere with a really high reputation for a piercing place (in western massachusetts) and had a very experienced piercer pierce me. Both times I was pierced with a 16g. I can provide a picture if none of this makes sense. help!
Unfortunately without seeing the piercing, it’s difficult to answer this question.
There’s always a possibility your piercing was done too high up, but there’s an even better possibility that you’ll just need to get a different diameter of jewelry to wear so that it fits.

I got my nostril pierced yesterday by a reputable piercer and wanted to make sure that from the get-go I was taking care of it properly. The aftercare instructions I received included applying a saline solution twice daily (and whenever the piercing may have been exposed to dirt, sweat, etc.), soaking it in hot water at least once a day for 10 minutes (and stated that the more it was soaked the better off it would be), and other than that to just LITHA. I was wondering if distilled water was a necessity or if I would be fine just using tap water for the hot water soaks? Also, how many times daily should I soak the piercing? Thanks in advance.
Piercers tend to have very differing aftercare, unfortunately.
I think you’re on the right track with your current regime. Here’s where I differ:
-Rather than soak the piercing in hot water, I tell my clients to stick their nose directly under a warm running faucet for about 5 minutes. This still encourages circulation and drainage from the piercing site, but with a constant flow of fresh water.
If you’d like to irrigate the piercing out with saline after that, go for it!
For the same reason piercers suggest not to submerge fresh piercings in bathtubs is the same reason I don’t like the idea of sticking a body part into a cup of water.
As far as the distilled water thing goes, depending on where you are: sure. Where I come from has some of the best tap water in North America.
Remember that there aren’t a lot of regulations for bottled water - so whereas the water may be treated and distilled and whathaveyou, the bottles rarely have a standard as to how they’re handled and treated beforehand.

Hey, I have already searched the Kaos jewelry website for a place to ask a question, and there isn’t one, so I thought I would try here! =) Their website is full of information about wearing kaos plugs in lobes and cartilage piercings, but no where else on the body…
I am in the process of stretching my septum piercing (Probably stopping at a 6 or 4 gauge). I know that they don’t advice you to stretch with kaos jewelry (in ears), so I’m not using it to stretch my septum either. BUT, I am just curious if kaos jewelry would be alright to wear in a septum piercing once it’s healed? Thanks in advance!
You’re right in not wanting to stretch with Kaos, but lots of people find Kaos silicone eyelets and plugs to be very very comfortable in septum and large gauge nostril piercings! It’s nice stuff!

About two weeks ago I went and got my septum pierced professionally. I was told to clean the piercing with plain old soap and water or he suggested using some bactine on a q-tip. I went ahead with the bactine method because he seemed to favor that over soap and water. Also, if it makes any sort of difference, the jewelery I have in is a horse shoe that he widened for me to flip up when I have to work. The first day my piercing was done things were fine and dandy. Up until the third day I felt basically no pain, by then my nose felt almost as if it had been punched pretty hard. Now it’s been two weeks and my nose is in the WORST pain. I’ve seen no type of puss or anything like that but my piercing has a feeling like it is chapped. All the way up to the middle of the bridge of my nose is sore as if I were punched. If I accidentally touch the bottom of my nose or it gets brushed by putting on or taking off a shirt I feel enough pain to want to take some tylenol. I’ve also noticed within the past few days, if I have to blow my nose or when I go to clean it, it is bleeding. Not a lot, but there is blood. I haven’t experienced any type of blood from it up until now. Should I be worried? I can’t lift my nostrils enough to see the actual piercing itself and doubt that even if it weren’t this sore I could do so.
Ugh. I feel your pain!
It was a couple weeks after I had my septum pierced that it felt like I’d taken a good bop to the nose.
To the touch, it’s pretty normal for it to be sensitive.
As far as your aftercare goes, you’re probably overdoing it and drying the heck out of it. (Hence the chapped feeling) Soap and bactine in the mucous membrane inside your nostrils is going to be very very irritating. I wouldn’t suggest either.
I tell my clients to rinse their fresh septum piercings in warm running water to loosen any crusties that may slide through the piercing. I also tell them to keep the flipping up and down of the the jewelry to a minimum.

lately ive been looking into getting my bridge pierced but i occasionally wear glasses. im not sure whether they sit on the same area or not, would it be possible to have both?
It is possible depending on where your glasses sit. Make sure you bring your glasses with you when you go to see your piercer so that they can have a look at potential placements with you wearing them.

What type of jewelry can you wear in your septum after you have your septril pierced? Do people usually wear tunnels with holes in them to allow for the stud, or do people wear no septum jewelry at all afterward?
I have seen pictures where people are wearing no jewelry in the septum, and I’m curious as to how they keep their septum from closing up around the septril piercing.

The most common jewelry is definitely an eyelet, with a hole in it for the septril to go through. Some people also wear solid plugs or rings even and wear the end of the septril under the jewelry with a flat back end on it. As for wearing no jewelry at all, some peoples septums never heal shut and even a small opening is sufficient for the end of a septril piercing.

I had a deviated septum and have since had surgery to correct it. I was poking around in there as I contemplated a septum piercing and found that I don’t really feel a sweet spot anymore. I’m wondering if it would hurt the results of the surgery to pierce my corrected septum, and also if it is wise to pierce through cartilage instead of the sweet spot?
Unless you are planning on doing a large-gauge piercing, I think it’s unlikely the piercing will interfere with the corrective surgery you have done. However, I would also suggest consulting your surgeon just to make sure. They probably won’t be thrilled at the idea of you doing it, but hopefully you can get them to give you some straight talk about how it might affect things.
Septum piercings can be done through cartilage. In general, you should expect it to hurt more to get it done, be sore for a longer period of time afterwards and in general, take a bit longer to heal. That’s just the nature of cartilage tissue.
You may want to consult with your piercer about different options for piercings, such as a needle that is a bit larger than the jewelry or perhaps a dermal punch (even at a smaller size). These things may help the piercing be more comfortable while it’s healing and perhaps heal a little faster.
Also, if you decide to stretch the piercing at some point, expect the stretching to be more difficult.

I got my septum pierced around 6 weeks ago. However it still hurts some when put my finger under my news. How long does a septum piercing take to heal? Is there any way to speed the healing along, other then to continue sea salt soaks once or twice a day?
(assuming you meant “nose”)
It’s possible your piercing may be through the cartilage in your septum and not in between it. In that case, you may experience a longer healing/stabalizing time for the piercing.
Try to avoid mashing it around (pressing it with your finger, for instance) and be very gentle in your aftercare.
Your body will heal faster or slower depending on how clean and healthy you are. So get lots of rest, take your vitamins and keep your nose clean and that will help promote the healing better than anything. And stop touching at it!

I currently have both nostrils pierced at 20g and am wanting to get my septum pierced with a 16g CBR.
As there is limited space inside the nose would there be any jewellery combinations that would assist with healing this, and anything to particularly watch out for. I normally just wear nostril screws, but have looked at the little flat back labret styles available as well.

Flatbacks in nostril piercings can be a great alternative to having so much metal up your nose with a septum piercing.
Some people may not have the best anatomy to accommodate both nostril piercings and a septum piercing, but your piercer will be able to determine that for sure after a quick peek. As long as your nostril jewelry isn’t hooking on to your septum jewelry you should be just fine to keep all three.
