Hey guys,
I’m interested in doing a basic suspension for an upcoming birthday of mine. Unfortunately after a few failed attempts at contacting CORE, I haven’t had any luck finding a crew to help me out. If you guys could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!
You’re lucky you’re in Texas! Being in Texas is kinda like being on the EAST coast, you have a huge selection of good teams to choose from. Obviously the one I’d recommend the most, Rites of Passage has a TX chapter in Austin, there’s TSD (tsd@suspension.org) in Dallas, also in Dallas is one of my absolute favorite up and coming teams “For Humans” (kelli1203@gmail.com) , as well as an AGRO chapter in Houston. And these are just The ones that I would choose, there’s many others.

Hi BME,
Now I know probably none of you are qualified to comment on self harm it’s self but I am have recently considered going for a suspension again after a failed attempt a couple of years back when life wasn’t so grand.
However, I now have 2 years 4 months free from self harm but my arms/legs are scarred from it, how would you say is best to approach a suspension team about the subject as I’d like to reassure them that suspending for me is not about self harm at all.
Could you recommend me a suspension team in the UK (the person I originally suspended with no longer does them)
Thanks guys and girls!
The best way to approach a team with this issue is also the most obvious. Just be upfront and honest. I don’t see any issue with suspending someone who used to self harm that would prevent a suspension. Perhaps there maybe some scar tissue that would affect hook placement but any professional suspension team will have no problem working around those scars and no bias against you due to your past.
As for who to suspend with. In the UK, I’d say to reach out to Matt Kirk (skindependentuk@gmail.com) or to reach out to constant elevation (xlefrogx@gmail.com). If neither of them work for you then you can always try looking for a team on the “groups” page of suspension.org.
And congratulations on finding more constructive ways to save yourself.

I have always been interested in suspensions but the only crew i can really find in Australia is hack in Newcastle and it is hard to find out when their events are on . could you recommended any crews in the Sydney area?
Well, whenever someone asks about where they can find a local group my first response is to always tell them to go check out suspension.org. However, everyone knows that already and since suspension.org just lists groups but doesn’t actually vouch for the quality of any, i’m assuming that what you’re really asking is what group i would recommend. Well, there are some groups in the Sydney area, for instance First Blood is in Sydney, Waylay is in Brisbane and there are others but what i would do is shoot over to NZ to hang with the Skindependent crew. In that part of the globe Eden and his crew are definitely my go to people and i can vouch for their work.

I am attending college, and as of now I have a research paper due and I need to interview someone who has experienced this. I have experminted with suspension, I just want to see if any one on here is willing to state there opinion on this?? if u can it would help alot thanks!
State their opinion on suspension? Thats a bit broad of a question. Do you want to discuss how it can utterly change your life, opening up doors to yourself that you never knew? How it can completely be an amazing release and allowing you to regain yourself? How it can test your own strength and show you your true merit? Do you want to discuss procedures and techniques? The current trends in the community? Sadly there is too broad a topic given, except i will say this… suspension is the greatest thing that i have ever experienced in my entire life.
As for finding people to interview, you are always welcome to email myself (cererop@gmail.com) but you can also find many other like minded individuals right here on IAM. Make some friends here and i assure you, youll have no lack of interview material.

I’ve been really interested in doing my first suspension for some time now, but I would feel a lot more comfortable being checked out by a doctor before hand. I had some health issues in my tweens (they involved blood pressure and heart rate and got a lot more serious with anxiety -why I’m a little worried now), and had very close doctor care until it became a non-issue. (That was around 16, I’m now 22) But as this was through a pediatrition, and by the time I was 18 I wasn’t in serious need of a doctor, I don’t have one anymore. The comments and attitudes I’ve gotten when getting treatment for minor injuries the past few years lead me to believe it may not be the best idea to walk into an ER or walk-in clinic and ask if it’s safe for my to hang from hooks through my flesh. I don’t really feel right making up symptoms I don’t have just to get a check up either, but I can’t be the only person looking for a solution for something like this. Any suggestions?
I’m not sure I understand your question so allow me to recap. You say 6 years ago you saw a Dr for some issues that were resolved, and they were taken care of and haven’t been an issue since. And now you want to suspend and you’d like to get checked out by a Dr first, but don’t know what to do?
That’s simple. Make an appt with a general practitioner and have a physical done! If you’re in good health (or normal ranges) then there’s absolutely no reason at all why you should be unable to suspend. If there is something abnormal though, speak to your physician about it and also MAKE SURE to inform your suspension crew about health issues that you have. Once specifics of your condition (if there is one) is known, it might not be a problem or your suspension team may have to modify your suspension. It’s the rare case that something would make you unable to suspend.
But at this juncture it all starts with you getting a physical. All this worrying may be for nothing!

I’ve been thinking about doing a suspension for quite some time now but i haven’t been able to find any suspension team around me. just something basic like a suicide for now but id love to do a resurrection down the road.
Anyone know where there’s a team around here?
Well, luckily you are in an excellent location! Not only are you surrounded by 3 chapters of Rites of Passage (Rochester, NYC, western MA) but you’re also a short ride from NYC where RoP, DHS and a few other teams operate. You literally have your pick of the litter!
Regardless of where you are though, I always recommend taking a peek at suspension.org to find a suspension group based on location. Its probably the most comprehensive list of teams and their contact information around. Be advised though, its just a list of teams and makes no claims on their quality of work. Contact a few teams, see who you’re comfortable with, talk to them… and then be prepared to have the most amazing experience of your life.

Hello BME!
I’m really interested in suspensions, Im a body piercer, but I would love to learn more about suspensions. I guess my question is this, is there anyone in (or near) Scotland whom I could maybe talk to about the matter?
I realise i will likely have to travel to an event to get suspended, this is no problem, but first of all, I would love to have a conversation with someone about it!
thanks in advance
Stu_dio
I’m not gonna’ lie to you, I had to look up a map to find out exactly where Scotland is when I was searching the Here are some suspension groups that work out of the (at least near by) area.
I would strongly suggest to contact them and ask to come to their next public event, as a spectator. Soak in the atmosphere, watch some people suspend and get a feel for it. Remember not to pester anyone while working, but most suspension artists are very open about their practices and are more than happy to share the wealth of knowledge with you.
After you have a bit of a feel for it, ask them when they can next suspend you - either at a public event, or privately (if you are shy for your first time).

ive been looking at suspension.org and all over bme. i was wondering if you guys knew of anyother places i could get good information on setting up a block and tackle setup. pictures would be helpful thanks
BME and Suspension.org are by far the best places to research suspension specific rigging. However, most of our techniques come from other areas such as mountain climbing/ rescue, aerialist/ circus rigging as well as industrial rigging and many other sources.
Any new member to my suspension crew, M.O.M, starts off by reading the book On Rope, which I feel is a great introduction to rigging.

Hey all you out there in bme-land I am looking for a reputable suspension group in the San Francisco Bay Area and was hoping you could point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Just because I don’t believe it has been mentioned in a while has the most comprehensive list of suspension teams anywhere online. That is always the best place to start.

Hi there BME,
So recently I’ve been contemplating about doing a DIY suspension on myself and been thinking about all the negative things that could come with it.
I don’t think that’s it would really be a good idea although it would really be something to me. The thing is that the word “suspension” is unheard of in my country - I live in Malta, an extremely small country - and there are no options as to where to get a suspension apart from doing it myself. The only help I would get was from a piercer I know (one of the few in this tiny country), that has hooked people for suspensions but never did one himself.
So, what should I do? Should I just wait for an endless time to maybe do a suspension later on in my life, or just try it out?
Thanks,
Isaac
Hey Isaac;
I certainly understand the impulse- sometimes we feel something so strongly it seems that we won’t be complete if we don’t go through the process. Five years ago I would have told you to go for it- it’s your body and obviously you have every right to do what you want when you want it.
Funny thing is- I grew up. I learned that I am NOT my body and that these rituals are important but not my whole being- so while the impulse is still there, the reality is that it should be a healthy, SAFE and introspective experience. That the preparation is as important as the ritual; and that good things truly do come to those who wait.
So if you’re asking for opinion… wait. Wait until you find someone who can facilitate the experience and make it a truly life altering event. You owe it to yourself.
