Hey,

I’m not new to body mod. I have 18 piercings and 2 tattoos. I’m 19, and my parents control my money for college. They’ve never liked my body mod, but recently they have threatened to cut me off completely if I get any more piercings or tattoos. I’ve tried to explain that it’s my form of self expression and my lifestyle choice, but they refuse to even listen. Any tips? Anyone dealt with the same thing?

Tips? If someone is paying your way you respect their wishes just like you want them to respect yours.
Take the money and run. Be patient. Get your degree. Thank them. Then go get modified the heck up.
The other option would be working 10 jobs, not accepting their money and showing them that you’re self sufficient AND modified.

Jump rings as body jewelry

Sunday July 27th, 2008 @ 1:17 AM

Is it common for people to use jump rings as body jewelry?

I was shopping for lip and nose rings online and I keep seeing jump rings as an option to buy. Until now, I was under the impression that jump rings were used for making jewelry and chainmaille.

Common? I sure hope not! Jump rings are for making things like chain maille and necklaces. NOT for putting in your body for long-term wear.

piercings

Thursday July 24th, 2008 @ 3:35 AM

just got nipples pierced about a month ago and decided that it is just not for me so i want to know what the process is to remove them and let them heal

As long as you’re not having any concerns that the piercings may be infected, simply cleaning and removing the jewelry and keeping the area clean as you would a cut should suffice.

Weeping of fluid around the piercing holes for the first day or so could be expected - mind you don’t wipe at it as you could introduce bacteria to the wound and CAUSE an infection. Do not poke anything back through the holes to “see if it’s closed up” as you can really irritate the healing piercing - and open it back up.

You can always go see your piercer and have them safely clean and remove the jewelry for you. Any concerns of possible infection should be brought to the attention of your doctor before removing the jewelry.

plug coating

Thursday July 24th, 2008 @ 3:13 AM

G’day guys

Im looking at starting to make plugs out of clear resin and embedding them with pretty things…but resin doesn’t sound like a very safe thing to put in piercings. Do you know anything I could coat the wearing surface with that would be safer?

Thanks a lot!

Weasel

The best option for you to do anything is to purchase Implant Grade Steel or Implant Grade Titanium single flared eyelets and place the resin designs within the eyelets.

modblog banner.

Wednesday July 23rd, 2008 @ 12:09 PM

Hi, I know that this is probably the wrong section but I can’t find any relevant email or whatsoever on modblog. I do like the new change now, its much more organised. What I would like to ask is that what happened to the banner that linked to modblog? Is there a new one? Cause it seems like the current one got deleted. The only banners that I can find now are those of askbme.com

You can find the banners here. We are in the process of creating some new (much cooler) banners, for both ModBlog and the new BMEnews, when those are complete you can expect a public post or something to notify everyone.

Thanks for linking to BME!

BMEshop!

Hey everybody!

I’m just wondering if anyone has heard any news on the return of BMEshop… I’m dying to order some more stuff and I’d really love any information on when it’s going to be back!

I’m not complaining, nor do I mean to ask a question that’s more than likely been asked a million times before - but I couldn’t find anything about it.

Thanks so much whoever answers this!

:)

We are working very hard behind the scenes to make this happen soon. Now I can’t divulge any information about it right now, but I can say that you will be very happy and excited when it returns, and we will definitely make a very loud announcement when it happens.

If you’re on IAM you can check out this post on Rachel’s page and give us your feedback on your favorite products that you’d like to make sure we keep and even new products you’d love to see us carry.

BMEink.com

Sorry if I missed this but what happened to BMEink.com? I loved being able to view all the images on there and made sure I made use of the advertisments where possible too. I think it was a great idea and would love to see it brought back.

BMEink.com has been reintegrated in to BMEzine.com, all of the photos and content is still there and you can always submit your photos and stories to BME for a free membership to view the entire galleries (piercing and tattooing). Also if you were to go to BMEink.com in your browser, or any BMEink.com URL, you will be forwarded to the corresponding content on BMEzine.com automatically.

Lip plug!

How permanent is lip stretching, and what size does it become irreversible without surgery?

There is no stock answer for this given the amount of data available.

tattoo scabbing

Friday July 18th, 2008 @ 6:31 AM

My tattoo is almost a week old and has scabbing on it in some places. I just wondered if scabbing is normal, or if it is a bad sign. Whenever I search on the internet I get completely different answers! Some say scabbing is really bad, and others say that it is normal. I’m kind of nervous about it. I’m being very careful not to knock off or pick at the scabs, at any rate. Thank you for your help!

You most certainly don’t want to pick the scabs off or anything like that. How have you been taking care of your tattoo? There’s MANY different aftercare methods and some work for some people and others for other people.

But scabbing isn’t uncommon, it can happen, especially with how some tattoo artists work…Not just that but also just how some peoples bodies naturally react to being tattooed.

The best thing for you to do is to not pick, allow the scabs to naturally want to fall off. As well as keep the tattooed skin moisturized with a very mild/gentle moisturizer.

Everyone’s different and everyone has their own brands and what not, personally I find Aveeno Moisturizer (Mild/Unscented) works best for my body…

Subincision Extension / Scrotal Split

Thursday July 17th, 2008 @ 2:49 PM

I have a subincision which extends to the loose skin at the front of my scrotum. I would like to extend the sub beyond the back of my scrotum which means I need a scrotal split. One way of going about this would be to do a transscrotal, then a scrotal split, then extend the sub, all in separate steps, each with a period of healing. I would like to know if it is possible to skip the transcrotal and go straight to the scrotal split. I also wonder if it is possible to do the scrotal split and sub extension at the same time, perhaps stitching the scrotal split to the split urethra instead of back to front as in a conventional scrotal split.

Doing a transcrotal for the sake of later doing a scrotal split is counterproductive. You will go through the procedure and healing of a transcrotal only to make scar tissue that will make the split more difficult. Extending the sub into the scrotum is a diifficult and potentially dangerous task. It’s worth ding it in stages to make the healing a little easier. Also, the potential for seriously dangerous and possibly fatal infections in the procedure is considerably higher than with the work you allready have done. Please take every possible precaution.
